I. INTRODUCTION
Internship is the last phase of the basic training of the physician. Satisfactory completion of
the 12-month internship program is a requirement to be able to take the Physician Licensure
Examination (PLE). The implementation of the Post-Graduate Internship program is supervised and
monitored by the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges Incorporated (APMCI).

For students who have graduated from their 4-year medical program, they have to apply for
Post-Graduate Internship through National Internship Program of the APMCI prior to being able to
take the Physician Licensure Examination.

The application for the National Internship Program or more commonly known as
“Internship Matching” is the process by which post-graduate interns (PGI) are assigned to a certain
hospital (of their choice) for the duration of their post-graduate internship. There are two internship
periods: (1) July 1 to June 30 (of the following year) and (2) January 1 to December 31. For each
internship period, there are several rounds of matching (maximum of three rounds), as not all PGIs
are assigned to a hospital immediately on the first matching.

Each applicant is allowed to apply to three hospitals of their choice (ranked according to their
preference) for every round of matching. Their credentials will be sent to all hospitals they applied
for and they will be included in the deliberation of these hospitals. The hospitals will then furnish
APMCI with a final list of their accepted interns. Those who are accepted in more than one hospital
will be matched to the one that was ranked higher (which is why each intern MUST PLACE THREE
DIFFERENT HOSPITALS in their application forms).

In addition, the feature in E-NIPS that requires the student to confirm or refuse his assigned
hospital has been already removed. They will be automatically matched to the hospital with the
highest rank that has accepted their application. If a lower-ranked hospital (based on a student’s
application) has accepted them and the highest-ranked hospital has not yet released their results, the
matching status of that student will still be pending. A student can only be matched to a lower-ranked
hospital if the highest-ranked hospital has not accepted their application.
II. ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE NATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Starting from the January 1, 2018 Internship Period, application to the National Internship
Program will only be done through their online platform. This platform, named E-NIPS, aims to make
application easier, faster and more efficient for students, medical schools, hospitals and the APMCI.

The online platform is accessible at apmcf-ph.net/enips. Upon arriving at the site, they should
be able to see the following interface.

At the end of the page, PGIs can start their application process by creating an account on the
link provided (in the red box).

Upon clicking on the link, they will be directed to the account registration page that the
student needs to completely fill out. Take note that for the –Select User Role—dropdown box, PGIs
have to choose the Medical Student/Intern option.
After they have completed the account registration process, it has to be approved by their
medical school before they can begin the application process. Once the account is approved, the PGI
applicant can already begin to apply for internship through the e-NIPS.

PGI applicants have to submit their requirements (transcript of records for the first three
years of medical school with GWA, certification of eligibility from the Dean’s office with ranking of
medical student) to their respective schools. Some schools will already furnish these documents for
the student. They will also have to coordinate with their respective institutions regarding the
payment of the application fee. The schools will be the one to upload the PGI applicant’s documents
to the online platform.

For each step of the internship process, the applicant can monitor the status of their
application in real time.

Once complete, the APMCI will review each student’s application and forward it to their
hospitals of choice for deliberation. If a student is accepted in more than one hospital, E-NIPS will
automatically place him/her to the hospital with the highest choice.
