“Defend the oppressed and fight the oppressor”

The tenet that I chose is the quote that is written above. I chose this tenet because I, for
one, can relate to this. For the past few years, there have been a lot of issues that come up on the
news wherein people, especially young students, commit suicide or even go to school and
massacre people. These students do this not because they are sick in the mind or are cruel, but
because they are sick of being oprressed and bullied. They are the ones who are always being
picked on. When I was back in grade school, I’ve gotten into a lot of fights because I always tried
to defend the ones who are bullied, in return, I was the one who got in trouble or even hurt. My
sisters always told me not to get into fights and not to intrude in the situation where I’m not
supposed to but I couldn’t help it, I always pitied the bullied ones and I just hated the bullies.
Today, there are a lot of situations wherein people are still being oppressed by the authorities.
One good example is the treatment of the Syria’s government to the people. The people are being
oppressed and it has come to the situation where violence is already committed. Thousands of
families are grieving because of their losses. Thousands of groups are rebelling against the
government, to fight for their freedom and for their rights and to defend their own people.
Thousands of innocent people are oppressed and are fleeing out of their own country, just to be
safe from the oppressors. Another example of defending the oppressed would be the movie
“Heneral Luna” and not only the movie, but also him in real life. Heneral Luna was a man who
would always put his people, his countrymen and his country first. Heneral Luna knew that we
were being oppressed, that we needed help and we couldn’t be colonized again. Thus, Heneral
Luna never gave up on defending our country (the oppressed) and we could say that he kept
fighting the colonizers (the americans) no matter what the cost is. Another good example of this
tenet would be the LGBT community and other communities that are against racisim. The LGBT
community and the anti-racisim community defend the people who are always being oppressed
by others. In the case of the LGBT, the community defends the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and
Transgenders from people who hate or dislike them like homophobes and treat them differently
and in a bad way. In the case of racisim, a lot of communities defend the blacks, which are
usually the oppressed victims of racist people. These are the right things to do because we are all
created equally and we are all people, we all have the same rights. It is right to defend the
oppressed and to fight the oppressors, for peace is the right way to go.
