Amal Gochenour was appointed Solo Piccolo of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 2018,
under the direction of Marin Alsop. She was previously a member of the Richmond Symphony and
the Sarasota Opera orchestras, and performed with the Post-Classical Ensemble, Smithsonian
Chamber Players, and Williamsburg Symphonia chamber groups.

Ms. Gochenour has appeared as a guest performer with the Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati,
National, and Washington National Opera orchestras, as well as guest Principal Flute with the
Korean Broadcast Symphony. She has played under the batons of such prominent artists as Lorin
Maazel, Yoel Levi, John Williams, Paavo Järvi, Leonard Slatkin, John Adams, Vasily Petrenko, and
JuanJo Mena.

In addition to performing, Ms. Gochenour is a committed teacher. She maintains a private studio
and frequently leads masterclasses on both flute and piccolo. She collaborated on Volume II of the
best-selling “Orchestral Excerpts for Flute with Piano Accompaniment” with her mentor Jeanne
Baxtresser, former Principal Flutist of the New York Philharmonic.

Born in Kuwait and raised outside of Washington D.C., she began early musical studies on piano
before switching to flute at the age of ten. She earned her undergraduate degree at the Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music and her Master of Music degree at Carnegie Mellon University. Ms.
Gochenour is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
