Definition of transport proposed by Arai (1996) is defined as the transfer of goods and people
from point of origin to point of destination. So with these activities then there are three things that
their cargo to be shipped, the availability of the vehicle as a means of conveyance, and the presence
of impassable roads. The process of moving from place of origin of the movement, where the
transport of starting and destination where the activity is terminated. Therefore with the movement
of goods and people, then transport is one sector that can support economic activity.
Transportation as the basis for economic development and the development of society and the
growth of industrialization. With the lack of transportation led to specialization or division of labor
according to the areas of their expertise. The economic growth of a country or a nation depends on
the availability of conveyance (transport) in the state or nation is concerned. In this case the use of
transport can create a product or commodity that is useful according to time and place.

Transport activities play an important role in the distribution of goods and services to the
corners of the country and between countries. In economic development, transportation is the
abiding prosperity, political development, social, cultural and defense and security. The role of
transport as a bridge to facilitate all economic activities and national logistic and provide socio-
economic added value (Increased economic social values). According to the World Bank (1996)
stated conceptually, sustainable transportation serves to transport the primary purpose as a driver
of economic and social development of urban areas. The important role of transport with regard to
economic aspects include the availability of goods, the stability and the equalization of prices, the
decline in food prices, increase the value of land, the development of small-scale businesses,

Economic development requires considerable road transport services as well as adequate. In


this case the toll roads and facilities are infrastructure (infrastructure) land transportation which is
a freeway (uninterrupted) for vehicle traffic and charged a fee (charge) directly to users as a trigger
for the development of the region around because of the influence of the accessibility of the higher
and cost of travel ( general cost) for the behavior of the movement. The government (in this case
the city government and the provincial government) has an interest in the effect of the procurement
of toll roads on environmental development such as: accelerated development of the area of
influence, employment, income to regional income, reduction in the level of traffic congestion on
the main alternative roads. exist and can lure other investors to invest capital in order to get profits
and income for the State.
From the description above it can be concluded that transportation is very an important role in
economic development of a country. Transport in the economic development of a country is also
to increase the national income is accompanied by equitable distribution among the population,
increasing the types of goods and services that can be generated by consumers, generating foreign
exchange economy of the State, creating and maintaining levels of employment opportunities for
the community.
