LIGHT AND SHADOWS

I. Define the following:

1. Shadow: The dark shadow formed by a translucent or an opaque object when it blocks the
light.

2. Opaque materials: Materials that completely block the light falling on it are called opaque
materials.

II. Differentiate between:

A. Transparent and translucent materials

Ans: A shadow has following features:

 A shadow is formed on the opposite side of a light source.


 A shadow is black even when the object is of any other colour.
 A shadow shows only the shape or outline of the object and not the details.
 The size of a shadow depends on the distance between the object and source of light.

1. Make a list of objects that you see around you and write them whether they are transparent ,
translucent or opaque materials.

2. Collect information on Shadow play and try to create one of your own and draw it in the
notebook. ( CCL)
