HOMEOSTASIS System
System
1. Sensory function :
Sensory receptors detect internal stimuli (ex : increased blood
acidity) and external stimuli ( ex : a raindrop landing on your arm).
Neurons called sensory or afferent neurons carry this sensory
information into the brain and spinal cord through cranial and spinal
nerves
2. Integrative function :
Perception many of the neurons that participate in integration are
interneurons.
3. Motor function :
Motor response such as muscle contraction or gland secretion.
It’s called motor or efferent neurons carry information from the brain
toward the spinal cord or out of the brain and spinal cord to effectors
(muscle & glands) through cranial and spinal nerves
Organization of the Nervous System to supply
the three basic functions
INTRODUCTION TO THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND
NERVE TISSUE
Organization of the Nervous System
1. NEURONS
2. NEUROGLIA
3. MYELINATION
4. GRAY AND WHITE MATTER
NEURONS
Nervous tissue consists of two types of cells :
1. Neurons
2. Neuroglia
Multipolar Neurons
Usually have
several dendrites
and one axon.
Most neurons in the
brain and spinal
cord are of this type
Structural Diversity in Neurons
Bipolar neurons
1. Have ONE main
DENDRITE and ONE
AXON
2. Found in the retina
of the eye, in the
inner ear and in the
olfactory area of the
brain.
Structural Diversity in Neurons
Unipolar Neuron
1. Begin in the embryo
as bipolar neurons.
2. During development,
the axon and
dendrite fuse into a
single process that
divides into 2
branches a short
distance from the
cell body.
Types of Interneurons
1. Purkinje cells in
the cerebellum
2. Pyramidal cells
found in the
cerebral cortex of
the brain, which
have pyramid-
shaped cell bodies.
NEUROGLIA
Nervous tissue consists of two types of cells :
1. Neurons
2. Neuroglia

MYELINATION
Myelin sheath or myelinated = axon that
surrounded by a multilayered lipid and protein
Skeletal muscle
Presynaptic neuron The neuron sending the
signal
2. Synchronization
Electrical synapses can synchronize the activity of a
group of neurons or muscle fibers.
The value of synchronized action potentials in the
heart or in visceral smooth muscle is coordinated
contraction of these fibers to produce a heartbeat or
move food through the gastrointestinal tract.
Communication via chemical neurotransmitters
that diffuse across a synaptic cleft. Provides
slow one-way information flow
Neurotransmitters are endogenous chemicals
(substances are those that originate from within
an organism, tissue, or cell) that transmit
signals from a neuron to a target cell across a
synapse.
Neurotransmitters are packaged into synaptic
vesicles clustered beneath the membrane in the
axon terminal, on the presynaptic side of a
synapse.
3 ways removal
neurotransmitter :
1. Reuptake- reabsorption
of the neurotransmitter
into the neuron.
2. Enzymatic degradation-
destruction of the
neurotransmitter with
special chemicals called
enzymes.
3. Diffusion- The
neurotransmitter
becoming detached
from the receptor and
drifting out of the
synaptic cleft.
a) broken down by enzymes
- acetylcholine esterase breaks down
acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft
- many nerve gases and insecticides
work by blocking acetylcholine
esterase
- prolongs synaptic communication
b) recycled by uptake
- most neurotransmitters are
removed by Na+/neurotransmitter
symporters
- due to a specific neurotransmitter
transporter
- recycled by uptake into
presynaptic terminal or other cells
(glial cells will take up
neurotransmitters)
c) diffusion, simple diffusion away
from site
1. Acetylcholine: Found in the PNS
and CNS.
2. Amino Acids:
• Glutamate and Aspartate
produce EPSP’s in the CNS.
• Gamma Aminobutyric Acid
(GABA) produces IPSP’s in the
CNS.
5. Neuropeptides:
Substance P: Enhances perception of
pain.
Endorphins: inhibit pain by blocking
release of Substance P
6. ATP-Adenosine 5’-triphosphate
Between taste buds and nerves that
carry taste sensations
SISTEM SARAF SENTRAL ( CNS )

B. SISTEM SARAF OTONOM
1. Sistem Saraf Simpatis
2. Sistem Saraf Parasimpatis
Serebrum
Serebelum
Merupakan bagian terbesar otak manusia.
Dibagi menjadi dua belahan, yaitu hemisfer
serebrum kiri dan kanan. Dipisahkan oleh
fisura longitudinalis cerebri.
Keduanya dihubungkan oleh korpus kalosum.
Setiap hemisfer terdiri dari sebuah lapisan luar
yg tipis : substansia grisea ( bahan abu-abu )
atau kortek serebri .
Menutupi bagian tengah yg lebih tebal
substansia alba ( bahan putih ). Yang lebih
dalam dari substansia alba adalah nucleus
basal.
Subs Grisea : badan sel yg terkemas dgn
dendrit
Subs Alba : serat saraf bermielin ( akson )
Hemisfer serebri dibagi atas lobus berdasar pd
tulang di atasnya :
Lobus Frontalis
lobus Parietalis
lobus Oksipitalis
lobus temporalis
Pre –frontal
Mengontrol emosi, kepribadian, penilaian,
penaksiran, tingkah laku yg dipelajari dan
pengembangan pikiran
Area presentral ( korteks motorik utama )
Terletak persis di bagian anterior sulkus
sentral. Rangsangan menimbulkan pergerakan
otot yang spesifik di sisi tubuh yang lain.
Area somatic primer
Menempati area sebelah gyrus sentral, area inii
menerima input sensori mayor seperti nyeri
,suhu, sentuhan dan vibrasi serta posisi dari
sisi kontralateral tubuh
Area yang berhubungan dengan sensori
Mengintergrasi informasi sensoris, ukukran
,bentuk, tekstur
a.Auditory : area wernicke
b.Olfactory
c. Gustatory
Menerima dan mengiterpretasi pendengaran,
pembau, rasa serta menerima dan menyimpan
memori singkat, memberikan integrasi
auditory, penglihatan. Memori masa lalu yg
rinci, seni, musik dan rasa
Area visual primer
Menerima input dr sebagian ipsilateral retina
bagian temporal dan sebagian kontralateral
retina bagian nasal
Area visual sekunder
Mengelilingi areal visual primer
,memungkinkan kita bisa menginterpretasikan
apa yang kita lihat.

Terletak jauh di tengah hemisfer dan
berhubungan dengan spinal pada tingkat
medulla.Terdiri dari :
Mesenchepalon, pons, dan medulla oblongata.
Mesenchepalon terdiri atas dienchepalon dan
otak tengah ( mid brain
Tempat keluar Saraf Kranial I – XII
Terdapat kumjpulan saraf yg mengontrol jantung
dan pembuluh darah, pernafasan, pencernaan

Mengatur reflek-reflek otot untuk keseimbangan
dan postur
Seluruh batang otak dank e dalam thalamus
berjalan jaringan luas neuron formasio retikularis.
Serat-serat ascenden dari formasio retikularis
menyusun Sistem Aktivasi Retikuler ( reticular
activating system : RAS). Mengontrol
kewaspadaan Kortek.
Pusat tidur
Dienchepalon terletak antara otak tengah (
midbrain ) dan hemisfer serebral. Struktur
fungsi utama dienchepalon adalah
hipotalamus. Thalamus berfungsi sebagai
pusat persediaan dan integrasi semua jenis
impuls sensorik, kecuali penciuman
Thalamus berperan penting dalam transmisi
impuls nyeri.
Hipothalamus mengintegrasi dan berfungsi
dalam informasi penting, seperti tanda vital,
keseimbangan cairan, temperature tubuh,
hormone dan factor yg mempertahankan
homeostatis fisik dan emosi tubuh.
Melekat ke belakang bagian atas batang otak,
terletak di bawah lobus oksipitalis korteks.
Serebelum terdiri dari 3 bagian yang secara
fungsional berbeda, yang diperkirakan
terbentuk secara berurutan selama evolusi.
Vestibuloserebelum : untuk mempertahankan
keseimbangan dan mengontrol gerakan mata
Spinoserebelum : mengatur tonus otot dan
gerakan volunteer yang terampil dan
terkoordinasi
Serebroserebelum: berperan dalam
perencanaan dan inisiasi aktivitas volunteer
dengan memberikan masukan ke daerah
motorik kortek.
Korda spinalis berjalan melalui kanalis vertebralis
dan dihubungkan dengan dengan kanalis
vertebralis dan dihubungkan dengan saraf
spinalis.
Dari batang otak berjalan suatu silinder jaringan
saraf panjang dan ramping, yaitu korda spinalis,
dengan ukuran panjang 45cm dan garis tengah 2
cm. Korda spinalis, yang keluar dari sebuah
lubang besar di dasar tengkorak, dilindungi oleh
kolumna vertebralis. Dari korda spinalis keluar
saraf-saraf spinalis.Korda spinalis hanya berjalan
sampai setinggi vertebra lumbal pertama atau
kedua ( setinggi sekitar pinggang )
Saraf spinalis terdiri dari 31 pasang saraf spinal
( kiri dan kanan ) yang terdiri dari :
