HYDRAULIC PRESS BRAKE MACHINE

PRESS BRAKE BENDING

Press brake bending is a bending job that uses a press and a die (die). This process forms a plate
that is placed on top of the die and then pressed by a pressure from above so that it gets a bend
similar to the shape of the die. Generally, the die is in the form of U, W, and some have a certain
shape.

Press Brake machines are used to bend or bend metal plates at certain angles (usually 90 degrees).

This machine is widely used in the car body industry (body, chassis, truck body, etc.),
manufacturing boxes (electrical panels, lighting houses, safety boxes, elevators, silent boxes etc.),
manufacturing kitchen sets, etc.
MECHANICAL AND HYDRAULIC PRESS

The main difference between the mechanical and hydraulic press machines on the shearing
drive (ram) of the press. Up and down movements of the slide (ram) of a mechanical press using
a crankshaft, eccentric shaft, cam, and knuckles. While the movement of slide press (ram)
hydraulic press machine is driven directly by the piston cylinder movement of the hydraulic
system.

HYDRAULIC PRESS BRAKE MACHINE

This machine uses a hydraulic system as a source of bending power. This machine requires
more efficient electric power (compared to mechanical type) to drive the hydraulic pump, this
machine uses fluid in its hydraulic system in the form of hydraulic oil which must be replaced
periodically (2000 hours).

• Strength : able to bend or bend thick plates (depending on machine capacity) such as
mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum, controlled accuracy.

• Disadvantages : relatively slow operation, although electricity consumption is more

efficient than mechanical types (but there are additional routine costs for oil changes)
Procedure Hydraulic Plate Bending Machine :

1. First check the deis or forming shoes, the desired bending angle.

2. Mark the side of the plate to be bent.

3. The position of this bending sign must be parallel to the bending dies.

4. The plate clamp must be strong

5. Adjust the bending angle according to the desired bending angle.

6. Adjust the base dies with the desired bending.

7. Begin the bending process by paying attention to the sides to be bent, this is to keep the first
position of the easy work.

8. If you want to do a lot of bending, make a jig or tool to facilitate the bending process. This jig
aims to facilitate the work so as to produce the same form of bending

TYPES OF PRODUCTS WORK PLATE BENDING WORK :

1. GOLD PLATE
2. ALMARI PLAT
3. TOOL BOX
4. FUNNY PLATE OIL
FACTORS AFFECTING BENDING PROCESSES :

1. THICKNESS OF THE PLATE

The bending process will result in withdrawal on the outside and shrinkage on the inside diameter
of the curvature. The thickness of the plate will affect the bending radius can be formed and the
ability of the material to be able to experience stretching without distortion.

2. BENDING METHOD

The exact procedure or method of bending process is very influential on the quality of the product
produced.

3. MATERIAL SIZES

Material with a large size when bent with a small radius will easily experience distortion compared
to material with a small size and a large bending radius

4. SUPPORTING EQUIPMENT

Equipment used includes molds, clamps and mandrels

5. LUBRICATION

Lubrication is needed to reduce the effects of friction and increase the efficiency of the forming
process.
There are also several other bending machines:

Manual Plate Bending Machine

This machine uses human power assisted by a ballast pendulum. This machine does not use any
power source purely using human power.

• Strengths : this machine is inexpensive and saves operational costs,

• Weaknesses : only suitable for thin mild steel-based plates (plate thickness less than 1-2
mm) or aluminum.
Mechanical Plate Bending Machine

This machine uses electric motor power which is assisted by a kind of flywheel which
functions as a power collector.

• Strengths : this machine is high speed and has great power,

• Weaknesses : large electricity consumption and very noisy sound and low precision.
The things that need to be considered in choosing this plate bending machine
are as follows:

1. Thickness of the plate to be bent or bent, the unit is mm

2. Length of bending or bending work, the unit is mm

3. V opening width used, the unit is mm

4. Tensile Strength of the material used, the unit is kg / mm2

From the foregoing, the tonnage needs of the plate bending machine can be determined. For safety,
a safety factor of 0.1 out of the total tonnage requirement is added.
