TOPIC: Understanding the square, rectangle, triangle, and circle

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:

A. COGNITIVE

- Identify square, rectangle, triangle, and circle.

- Describe the number of sides, corner, and grid of square, rectangle, triangle, and

circle and show concrete example of it.

A. PSYCHOMOTOR

- Form a square, rectangle, triangle, and circle using popsicle stick.

B. AFFECTIVE

- Create object using those explained kind of shapes.

II. LEARNING CONTENT

References: Mathematics around us (grade 1). Elisa S. Baccay, Ed.D., Jose M. Ocampo,

Ph.D., Rene R. Belecina, Ph.D., Wilmer G. Marquez, M.A-Page 240, 248, 255, 261.

Materials: Manila Paper, Power Point Presentation, and printed materials, Styrofoam, and

popsicle stick.

Value: learn that shapes is very important to identify things on everyday life in society.

III. LEARNING EXPERIENCES

A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
- Prayer
- Dear god give us your shape of heart and help us to learn in this circle world and let us

strengthen our soul and mind.

- Checking Attendance

- Greeting song (The singing walrus)

1. REVIEW

Before we start our lesson for today, let us review your past lesson yesterday. What have you

studied yesterday?

➢ Fraction

If we cut a whole pizza into 8 and what is the answer?

➢ 1/8

2. MOTIVATION

We will teach you a new song about our discussion today.

All you must do is follow and sing along with us.

Shapes, shapes
Shapes are everywhere
Triangle and circles, rectangle and squares (X2)

A circle is round,
Like the moon in the sky or wheel or a clock, or the iris of your eye
A circle is forever,
No beginning and no end, can you spot the circle?
Spot the circle now my friend

Shapes, shapes
Shapes are everywhere
Triangle and circles, rectangle and squares (X2)

A square is a shape with four straight sides

Every same, and every angle right
Like a box, or a table, or the seat of chair
But where is it hiding? Tell me, can you spot the square?

This is the triangle, here for you to see

Can you count the sides up? Ready? 1 2 3!
Like a wedge or the face of an ancient pyramid
A triangle is in there tell me, can you find it kids?

Shapes, shapes
Shapes are everywhere
Triangle and circles, rectangle and squares (X2)

A rectangle’s a shape like a woodblock or a door

Every side a straight line counts them are four
A picture frame, computer screen, a book, to name a few
A rectangle is in there playing hide and seek with you!

Shapes, shapes
Shapes are everywhere
Triangle and circles, rectangle and squares (X2)

2.1 MOTIVATION
1. Before we start our new discussion let us have short and simple activity. As you can see
there is a shapes and objects in the board.
2. Each object is aligned to different shapes.
3. Now each of you pupils get one of each objects and arrange it from what group of shapes
the object belong.
VALUING:
- Can you name the four shape that will discuss today?
- How did you know if the objects are same to four objects that will discuss today?
- What is the difference between each shape?

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY

1. Presentation (Square and Rectangle)

- Give a popsicle sticks and discuss the shape square and rectangle using the
popsicle stick.
- First, we need to identify how many sides and corners have they. The rectangle and
square have a four sides and corners.
- Now using popsicle sticks we need to create a square and rectangle.
- Let’s differentiate and compare the rectangle and square. The square is short, and the
rectangle is long, but they have same side and corner.
VALUING:
- How you pupils create your square and rectangle?
- What is the procedure in creating rectangle and square?
- How the two different from each other?
- What is the same factor of rectangle and square?

C. APPLICATION:
2. Group activity (Square and Rectangle)
- Group the pupils into two.
- Find and complete the broken pieces of object in the Styrofoam.

CAR FACTORY

3. GENERALIZATION
- What will happen if we cannot find the missing shape?

1.2 Presentation (Triangle)

- Each pupil needs to find and color the triangle shapes inside the house.

- Give a popsicle sticks and teach the triangle using popsicle stick. The triangle has three

side and corner. It is like a mountain.

VALUING:
- What is look alike of triangle?

- What will if the size of popsicle is different from each other?

APPLICATION:
- Group activity (Triangle)

- Group a pupil into two and create a kite using tringle shape.

- The teacher gave picture of kite and materials (newspaper and popsicle sticks)

- The teacher will guide the student to create the output.

GENERALIZATION:
- What did we do to create a kite?

- How many triangles did you see in the kite?

1.3 Presentation (Circle)

- Let’s discuss the circle using this model.

CENTER
RADIUS

CIRCLE
DIAMETER
R
- Now each circle has a part.

- The radius is distance from center to any point of the circle.

- The diameter is another line (from radius).

- The semi-circle a half of circle.

- The quarter-circle is half of semi-circle.

VALUING:
- What are the four parts of circle?

- Answer this activity (Draw the parts of circle using cartolina)

ACTIVITY:
- Trace the outline of circle on this given object.

CLOCK PESO BALL WHEEL

SUN EYE PIZZA EARTH

GLASSES

APPLICATION:
- Count the scrabble circle on manila paper.

- Divide the pupil into two groups.

GENERALIZATION:
- How many circles did you find?

- How does difficult for you to see the circle inside the manila paper?
IV. EVALUATION

- Divide the pupil into two groups and create an object (Robots and Sun) using

Styrofoam.

V. ASSIGNMENT

- Search to internet. (Objects that represent PRISM).
