COURSE TITLE: ENTREPRENEURIAL BEHAVIOR

CODE NUMBER: ENMA 3013


CREDIT: THREE (3) ACADEMIC UNITS
DURATION: 54 HOURS (ONE SEMESTER)
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
At the end of the semester, students should be able to
enumerate and identify entrepreneurial traits, behaviors and
competencies. During the course, the students will be able to
perform self assessment to determine their level of
predisposition to entrepreneurs. This course will also include
personal entrepreneurial competencies, management styles,
business ethics, responsibilities and duties of an
entrepreneur.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the student’s expected to:

1. To understand how and why people behave the way


they do in organization;

2. To know the different leadership traits essential in


the organization;

3. To be able to know the concept of employee


motivation;

Quiz & Written Work – 15 %

Project/Final Requirements – 20 %

Midterm/Final Examination – 35 %

ORIGIN OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The term entrepreneur or


entrepreneurship originated in
Europe sometime in the Middle Ages.
ORIGIN OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The word entrepreneur is of French


origin from the word entreprendre
which simply means to undertake.
Lloyd Shefsky defined entrepreneur
by dissecting the word entrepreneur
into three parts:

Entre means to enter


Pre means before and
Neur means nerve center
Joseph Schumpeter described
entrepreneurship as doing things
that are NOT generally done in
the ordinary course of business
routine.
Entrepreneurship
 Is the process of starting a
business, typically a start up
company offering an innovative
product or service.
Entrepreneurship
 Having profits from bearing uncertainty
and risk. (Knight 1921)

Dynamic process of vision, change


creation that requires an application of
energy and passion toward the creation and
implementation of new ideas and creative
solution. (Kuratco 2009)
Entrepreneurship
An activity that involves the discovery,
evaluation and exploitation of opportunities
to introduce new goods and services, ways
of organizing markets, processes and raw
materials through organizing efforts that
previously had not existed. (Shane 2003)

required to bring a new
enterprise into existence and to

term basis;

people working in it.

SUCCESS of any enterprise
primarily depends upon the
efficiency and the effectiveness of
the entrepreneur;
INTRODUCTION:
The effectiveness of entrepreneurs
depends primarily upon its human
skills and how well he understands
the needs and desires of the people
working in the enterprise.

“Entrepreneurial behaviour is a
subset of entrepreneurial activities
concerned with understanding, predicting
and influencing individual behaviour in
entrepreneurial settings.”
ROLE AND IMPORTANCE
OF ENTREPRENEURIAL
BEHAVIOR
1. Understanding human behavior: Entrepreneurial
behavior plays an important role to develop full
knowledge about the behavior of employees.

2. Predicting human behavior: Entrepreneurial behavior


also help in predicting the future employee behavior.
This would allow them to take preventive actions.

3. Control and direct behavior: Entrepreneurial behavior


assists entrepreneur to direct and control the human
behavior to build successful enterprise.
4. Entrepreneurial effectiveness: It helps in better use of
raw material and other resources to improve the
quality of work in the enterprises.

5. Motivation: Entrepreneurial behavior helps the


entrepreneurs to identify the needs and requirement
of the employees.

6. Better human relations: Entrepreneurial behavior also


help in maintaining cordial human relations in the
enterprise. It assists in find out causes of industrial
conflicts.
