FSSAI Rules & Regulations for E-commerce Food
Operators

With the advent of new technologies in digital India,


FSSAI has introduced and mandated licence (e-
challan) for e-commerce Food Business Operators to
run businesses according to new FSSAI guidelines
under FSSAI Rules and Regulations.
Registration of the E-commerce FBOs

 As per the rules for e-commerce


FBOs(food business operators), the
FSSAI stated, “E-commerce FBOs shall
be covered under schedule-I of the
Food Safety and Standards
Regulation, 2011.

 The FSSAI further stated that the e-


commerce food operators avail their
license from the Central Licencing
Authority for their food supply.
Safety, Hygiene, Delivery and Communication

As per FSSAI Rules and Regulations, FSSAI e-commerce Guidelines:-

Only trained professional should undertake delivery, hygiene,


delivery time and safekeeping etc.
To make sure no misleading information should be made regarding
sellers, brand owners, vendors, agencies etc.
Compulsory for entities to display warning on platforms such as
websites.
Mobile Application for more power to
consumers

 Standing up with the digital trends FSSAI launched a mobile


application last year.
 So that consumer raise their concern regarding any issue related
to food safety.
Listing of only the
Registered/Licenced Restaurants
A recent press release regarding FSSAI e-commerce guidelines states that only 30-40%
restaurants out of total listed with them.
However, it has become mandatory for such platforms to only have FSSAI Licensed or
Registered restaurants.
As per observation the majority e-commerce food based operators (FBOs) disobeying
the FSSAI guidelines. it further directed to delist the restaurant registered.

 Health/Trade Licence
 Eating House Licence
 Shop and Establishment Act
And many more.
Necessary Steps taken by FBOs

 Consequently, the newspaper reports shows numerous e-


commerce FBOs like Swiggy, Zomato, Grofers, Uber Eats,
agree to FSSAI e-commerce guidelines.
 They have also de-listed many unregistered restaurants from
their platforms
