COURSE SYLLABUS
Course Name Principles and Practice (Music Overview I) – The Philosophical & Historical Foundations of Creative Expressions in Sound – I
Course Code MCAE 103
Course Credits 3 units
Course Description Music Overview 1 introduces BCAE students to study and explore the physicality of sound and its role in human expressions in the different
multicultural worldviews giving weight to explorations and performances that are based on the socio-political-economic and religious contexts
as performance standard.
Contact Hours/ week 3 hours
Prerequisite Instrumental Study level I (keyboard, violin, flute, trumpet)
Rondalla Instruments (guitar, ukulele, laud, banduria),
Bamboo instruments (angklung, flute, bungkaka, sulibao, s’ludoy)
Gong instruments (kulintang, gamelan, gangsa) or whatever is available in the school context
At the end of the semester, the students must have:
Course Objectives 1. Relate the objectives of the course to the VMGO of ZMC.
COGNITVE 2. Demonstrate understanding on the meaning and objectives of music education to support life-long learning.
3. Demonstrate efficiency in playing instruments with mastery.
PSYCHOMOTOR
4. Demonstrate deep understanding on the Philosophy of Sound and Auditory Perception and be able to apply the acquired skills on music
program.
5. Describe the role of creative expressions in sound in the development of one’s perception.
AFFECTIVE 6. Exhibit holistic development in the physical, emotional, social and mental aspects to be globally competent individuals that contribute
to the development of the community.
7. Create innovative and meaningful sound and its role in human expressions.
8. Integrate the components of sound that are based on the socio-political-economic and religious contexts as performance standard.
9. Express appreciation of the benefits and values derived from participation in playing instruments and singing.
