Time Frame: Day of the Week Lesson Description

Monday: The purpose of this lesson is to review the


information about fractions. We will be
Comparing Fractions listening to a song about equivalent fractions.
We will learn about numerators and
denominators. We will compare fractions
that have the same denominators. We will
learn how to write and draw the fractions.
We will learn how to reduce fractions. They
will also learn how to place a fraction on a
number line between 0 and 1. The students
will practice the comparing fraction ideas
that they learned about during class
instruction, students will be divided into
groups of four to play a game called
Comparing Fractions Showdown.

Tuesday: The purpose of this lesson is to have the


students think about real life experiences
Pizza Fractions with fractions. They will become familiar with
a book that talks about how making pizza
uses fractions. We are going to resemble
pizza fractions in the book as a class together.
The students will then make their own
fraction pizzas. They will then write about
what fractions were used to create their
pizza.
Wednesday: The purpose of this lesson is to have the
students use fractions to create their own
Fraction Relay Race relay race as a team. They will determine who
has to run what distance since they do not
have to run the same amount. They will figure
this out by using a number line that is labeled
with start and finish.
Thursday: The purpose of this lesson is to allow the
children to become familiar with fractions
Fraction Go Fish that equivalent. We will listen to a song
about equivalent fractions. The students will
play Fraction Go Fish. They will have to ask
for a fraction and find a fraction that is
equivalent for them to be a pair.

Friday: The purpose of this lesson is to make our very


own fraction strips. We will fold paper shapes
Fraction Strips Equaling a Whole to create fractions. We will then fold strips of
paper to create our own fractions strips that
we can take home or use in class. The
students will play a game called Uncover to
learn the importance of equivalent fractions.
Monday: The purpose of this lesson is to have the
students use fractions to a personal measure.
Fraction Names They will use the letters in their name to piece
together a whole fraction or their fraction
name.
Tuesday: The purpose of this lesson is to use everyday
clothespins in math. The students will order
Clothespin Fraction Go Fish the clothespin fractions on string with is a
number line starting with 0 and ending with 1.

Wednesday: The purpose of this lesson is for students to


practice breaking apart fractions. They will
Zombie Fractions choose zombie fraction cards. They will have
to write different ways to decompose each
fraction.
Thursday: The purpose of this lesson is for the students
to understand fractions they used. They will
Robot Fractions take different colored shapes and build a
robot. They will have to find and explain the
fraction of colors and shapes they have used
to create their robot.
Friday: The purpose of this lesson is for the students
to use fractions in a fun everyday life game.
Fraction Hopscotch They will use fractions and a number line to
play hopscotch in groups.
Monday: The purpose of this lesson is for the students
to use fractions for our classroom barbeque.
Classroom Fraction Barbeque They will have to pick recipes and write their
fraction of ingredients in order to have food
at our barbeque.
