STEP Standard 7 – Reflecting on Instruction to Improve Student

Progress
Improved Practice Based on the Unit of Study
Based on the experience of developing and delivering your instructional unit, list three short-
term goals to improve specific areas of your teaching practice based on the unit of instruction
and describe your plan to reach each short-term goal.

Plan to Reach the Goal (i.e., professional

Short-Term Goal development, research on the Internet,
observation of a veteran teacher, etc.)
1. Implement more brain breaks A way that I could make more time for brain
breaks is when I am doing my lesson
planning I could plan for brain breaks
between lessons and write them in and make
them a part of the day, when a lesson is over
we will do a planned brain break and then
move onto the next lesson.

2. Implement more group work I plan to do some research on the internet on

teacher sites, as well as ask for different
ideas from more experienced teachers for
ideas as to how to implement more group
activities for a kindergarten class. I Will also
use the ideas that I have now such as have
the students work with a partner on their
letters, numbers and sight words.

3. More hands on activities I will look at more teacher resources to get

more ideas for learning games that are
related to the lesson so the children can
participate in them when they are doing their
learning centers or free time when work is
finished. I will make a certain shelf that is
open to the students to go to get an activity
to work silently with while other classmates
are finishing up their work.
