American Slang with Dialogues G

Guts

 Courage, valor; having the nerve to do

something.

Alt: I’ve had it! I give up and I don’t want to do it again.

I was meant for bigger and wonderful things.

Jad: You can’t give up. You need this job, remember?

Alt: I’ve sacrificed enough for this job. I want to do

something new. Something that is worth
admirable.

Jad: That’s great! Most people want to change the

world but most of them don’t have the guts to try.

Alt: I know, Jad. You are right! I am determined to

follow my heart!

Jad: What is your dream?

Alt: Well, I’m not quite so sure what I’m destined to do

yet. But I know I can find it one day!

Jad: That’s great! I hope you can find it soon and don’t
forget to follow it!
Alt: Thanks Jad!

Glam

 Glamorous; wearing fashionable clothes and

make-up

Jade: Come with me!

Shanice: Where are you taking me?

Jade: I’m giving you a make over and I know you

won’t regret it.

Shanice: I don’t need a makeover.

Jade: Yes, you need. I know this might sound weird

for you but believe
me, it will help a lot!

Shanice: Okay, I admit my appearance needs updating

and transformation but I’m afraid you will turn
me into something which
I don’t like.

Jade: Don’t worry! I will do my best. Tonight, I

assure you everyone will say “ You are so
glam! “.

Shanice: Really? Now, I am starting to feel ants in my

pants.

Jade: Yes! and everyone will think you are a super

model.

Gibberish

 Speech that doesn't make sense; nonsensical words

and phrases

Arvin: Hey Jad! I need to say something to you about the

incident yesterday!

Jad: Yes! I heard you were picking a fight with our new
neighbor in the park!

Arvin: Nah! I was sitting with my dog at the park waiting for
my friends to arrive. Meanwhile, I noticed a strange
guy who was sitting a few seats away
was speaking gibberish on himself.

Jad: Oh really, I hope you did not annoy him.

Arvin: Actually, I was hoping I could make peace with him

but the opposite was true. I smiled at him and he was
furious with me.

Jad: Maybe, there was something wrong him.

Arvin: I don’t know. I told him to chill out but he didn’t seem
to like what I’d said. He was shouting so loudly that
everyone was looking to me.

Jad: That’s a big trouble.

Arvin: I was just lucky my friends arrived. When he saw

them, he stopped and
weighed his odds.
Jad: You had never been so happy to see your friends as
you were at that
moment.
Glued to your seat

 To be extremely interested in something; to be so

involved with something that you cannot move.
Jad: I can’t believe it. You’re late again!

Shen: I got caught up at work. What are you so worked up about?

Jad: I’ve had it up to here with your excuses. If you knew you were
going to be late, why didn’t you call? We’ve been over this a
hundred times. I called your secretary and she said, “You were
glued to your seat working on some documents”

Shen: There wasn’t time to call. And plus, what’s the big deal? I’m
just a little late.

Jad: A little late? You’re an hour late! You are so inconsiderate

sometimes…[sigh] …You look tired.

Shen: Yeah, I am. Look, I’m late and I was inconsiderate. Let’s not let
it ruin our evening.

Jad: Okay, I’m sorry. Maybe I overreacted. I know you’ve been

really busy at work.

Shen: I’m the one who’s sorry. I should have called. Will you let me
make it up to you?

Jad: You don’t have to. I shouldn’t nag.

Shen: You weren’t nagging. Let’s go get something to eat. We’ll both
feel better with some food in our stomachs.

Jad: Yeah, you’re right. Let’s go.

Green thumb

 A special talent for gardening; the ability to make anything grow.

Joni: Smell that!

Giuseppe: Smell what?

Joni: Smell that fresh air. Aren’t you glad I got you to help me plant this
garden? We’re going to have so much fun today.

Giuseppe: Uh huh. I’m glad to help, but I don’t exactly have a green thumb.

Joni: That’s okay. As long as you can tell a shovel from a lawn mower,
you’ll be fine. Let’s start by moving these pots next to the bushes.

Giuseppe: Okay, your wish is my command.

Joni: Oh, this bag of fertilizer is so heavy.

Giuseppe: Let me get that.

Joni: Thanks. I didn’t know we had so many large bags of seeds, too.

Giuseppe: Do you want me to help you with those?

Joni: Thanks a lot. I’ll also need someone to help me hoe this soil.

Giuseppe: I guess I could do that.

Joni: And how am I going to pull all of these weeds?

Giuseppe: Honestly, I think we need reinforcements.

Joni: Good idea. You start working and I’ll go see if I can round up more
help. [She leaves.]

Giuseppe I start working while she leaves? Hmm...I think she just pulled a
fast one on me.
