NUMERICAL RELAY BASED TRANSFOMER PROTECTION
Duration: 1 Year
Team Size: 1

Our aim is to protect Transformer using Differential Numerical Protection. The transformer is vital
part of the power system. Generally, it is used for stepping up or down the voltage in the whole
power system scenario. The transformer protection is a major issue. The transformer is protected
using differential protection scheme. If a differential relay under-reaches or over-reaches, a big
portion of load is disconnected unnecessarily. Unnecessary disconnection of load leads to increased
losses in the system.

MATLAB/SIMULINK platform were used to study differential protection relay and under voltage
relay for a power transformer. The basic approach is to give protection to the power transformer
against internal faults and prevent interruption due to other operating conditions. The transformer
terminal voltage and current signals are sensed by current transformer and potential transformer and
utilized to enhance the reliability of differential protection. The proposed relay was able to
distinguish between fault and no-fault conditions.

The hardware implemented include transformer as the equipment to be protected, microcontroller

dsPIC33EP256MC202 for processing the incoming signals and giving the ‘TRIP’ result. The
differential protection scheme and under voltage scheme gave satisfactory results. The differential
protection scheme is made to sample the signals at ADC pins for 20 ms.. The microcontroller gives
the ‘TRIP’ or ‘NO TRIP’ result. The project also presents a further scope of improvement.

WIRELESS CONTROLLING AND MONITORING OF DC MOTOR USING
GSM TECHNOLOGY
Duration: 1 Year
Team Size: 4

Our aim is control and monitor DC Motor with the help of GSM. The microcontroller is an
extremely handy for on and off command as it communicates with GSM without any wire network,
as we are worked on Wireless Technology. To implement this, a GSM modem is connected to a
programmed microcontroller which will receives the SMS from reference cell phone. The Max232
Convert received SMS into microcontroller format. During this operation we have it may have
chances of temperature increase, and to avoid that we have mount Temperature sensors. We have
select GSM because of its standard makes international Roaming very common between mobile
phone operators, Enabling subscribes to use their phones in many parts of World.
