LINE TRAP
1.1.1 a) The existing 220 KV double circuit lines run on steel lattice towers having a
normal span of 350 meters.
b) The existing 132 KV double circuit lines run on steel lattice towers having a
normal span of 335 meters.
1.1.2 a) The phase wires for 220 KV systems are generally AAAC conductors of overall diameter
of 29.79 mm with 61 strands of Aluminium Alloy of 3.31 mm diameter.
b) The phase wires for 132 KV systems are generally AAAC conductors of overall
diameter 20.16 mm with 37 strands of Aluminium Alloy of 2.88 mm diameter.
1.01.03 Ground wires will be provided in the system throughout the length of the transmission lines.
1.01.04 Alteration in the conductor sizes, if any, will be intimated to the successful tenderer at
a later stage.
1.02.01 The system frequency is 50 Hz. However, frequency fluctuation in the system in
between 48 Hz to 50.5 Hz is not unusual.
1.4.1 The purchaser reserves the right to increase or/and decrease the quantity of any item or/ and
add or delete any item. As such break-up prices of items of the item shall be furnished
for adjustment of prices in the event of such increase/ decrease or addition/ deletion.

1.05.00 TESTS
1.05.01 All normal design and routine tests as per relevant standard shall be performed on the
equipment. Any other test which helps to increase reliability throughout the useful
life of the equipment shall also be carried out.
1.06.01 The Line Trap will be installed in the outdoor switchyard at the stations. The Line
Trap will be vertically suspended from the terminal gantry structure.
1.07.01 The inter-circuit and single circuit phase-to-phase coupling arrangement will be adopted for
coupling to double circuit and single circuit lines respectively with Line Traps
connected to the Blue phases for double circuit and to Blue and Yellow phases for
single circuit.
1.08.02 16 (sixteen) sets of complete literature, Test reports for all the tests carried out on
Line Traps, instruction manual containing full physical layout, assembly drawing and
complete circuit diagrams essentially needed for maintenance, equipment repairs,
setting to service etc. should be furnished to the Chief Engineer (Commn), DVC,
DVC Towers, VIP Road, Kolkata – 700054 prior to dispatch of the equipment.
1.08.03 The successful tenderer shall submit further technical particulars or any sort of
clarifications whenever called upon to do so by the Purchaser during the execution of
the Contract as well as during the useful life of the equipment purchased.
1.09.01 Chief Engineer (Communication) and his duly authorized representative shall have at
all reasonable time access to the manufacturer’s premises or works and shall be
provided with facilities to inspect drawings or any portion of the work or examine the
materials and workmanship of the equipment during the stages of manufacturing.
1.09.02 All normal design, routine test and any other test to increase reliability of the
equipments as per relevant standard shall be provided in the equipment at every stage.
As also, the total tests of the complete system shall be done before the equipments are
dispatched. The inspecting engineers should be informed well in advance as per the
address at Cl. 1.08.02 to undertake and witness the routine tests and final inspection.

1.09.03 The satisfactory completion of these tests shall not bind the Purchaser to accept the
equipment, should it on further inspection, be found not complying with the original
test result and contract.
1.10.00 PACKING
1.10.01 The supplier shall provide for securely protecting and packing the equipment so as to
avoid loss or damage during transportation. Any loss or damage shall be made good
by the supplier at no additional cost of the Purchaser within the shortest possible
period and with fullest responsibility.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION - II
2.01.01 The line trap shall be of single point suspension mounting type and should conform to IEC
353/ IS 8792. The line Trap shall be mechanically strong to withstand the stresses due
to wind pressure of 260 kg/sq. m.
2.01.02 The line traps intended for use at both ends of each line section shall be designed to block the
carrier frequency current but shall allow the 50 cycles power current flow without
losses.
2.01.03 The line trap shall be broad band type and suitable for blocking the transmitted and
received frequencies of the section concerned where transmit and receive frequencies
may be wide apart.
2.01.04 Line Trap shall consist of a main coil designed to carry continuously the rated current
without exceeding the limit of temperature rise. It shall be provided with a protective
device and a tuning device.
2.01.05 Line Trap shall be provided with a Protective Device in the form of Lightning Arrestor
which shall be designed and arranged such that neither significant alteration in its
protective function nor physical damage shall result from either temperature rise or
the magnetic field of the main coil at continuous rated current or rated short time
current. The protective device shall neither enter into operation nor remain in
operation, following transient actuation by the power frequency voltage developed
across the Line Trap by the rated short time current. The protective device shall be
shunt connected to the main coil and tuning device. The Lightning Arrestor provided
with the Line Trap shall fully comply with the requirements of IS 3070 part–I/ IEC–
99-1 Part I/ IEC –99–4.
2.01.06 All the mounting accessories and hardware including bolts for fixing the Line Trap on
insulators shall be of non-magnetic material to eliminate heating due to the intense
magnetic field of the trap under heavy load conditions.
2.01.07 Sharp corners shall be avoided on the outer surface of the trap to minimize corona
losses.
2.01.08 Barriers shall be provided on the end brackets to prevent entry of birds in the interior of the
trap.
2.01.09 The insulating members shall be either porcelain or impregnated fibrous materials, to
ensure against ingress of moisture and decay.
2.01.10 Suitable socket and accessories (without Disc insulator) for hanging the line trap by
suspension insulator shall be supplied by Bidder along with line trap.
2.01.12 Bimetallic connectors shall connect the line trap with the incoming line and the station
BUS by means of AAAC conductor described in Cl. 1.01.02. Terminal Connectors
shall be designed for the same current ratings as Line Trap and temperature shall not
exceed 40 deg. C over 50 deg. C ambient. Terminal Connectors shall conform to IS :
5561. No part of Terminal Connector (including hardware) shall be of magnetic
material. Connectors shall be designed corona controlled. All nuts and bolts shall be
suitably shrouded.
