Abstract
Resonance occurs when a force is applied with a frequency equal to that of the oscillating system. The
properties of this phenomenon can be used to calculate the speed of sound in the air. Thus, resonant tubes,
tuning forks of different frequencies, graduated ruler, rubber hammer and markers were used to achieve
this. With the use of these equipment and materials we proceeded to calculate the resonant air column for
the first, third and fifth harmonicas of each tuning fork. Subsequently, the wavelength was calculated
from the length L (air colony) for each case, and finally the experimental speed of sound in the air was
calculated. This value was compared with the theoretical speed of the sound in the air, obtaining a
percentage of error between these values.
