CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Leadership has a capacity to do something through talent and skills. It is

part of each individual daily activity to achieve goals beyond the abilities of every

human. It is their way to prevail treats from their environment and other group of

people. Talent is indigenous ability and skill is expertise that gained through

training and experience. Smith (2010) Being a leader is not about how you are

good to it. To become a great leader is through experience and challenges you

have been faced.

Furthermore, Leader is person who encourage a group of people to achieve

their goals. (Wong 2017) every leader has different kind of goals that they want to

achieve and has different kind of strategies to encourage their members to have a

confidence to reach every goal.


BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The concept of gender has been recognized and take in consideration when

female and male being observed. In the past, men supposed to be the one with

highest status and female are considered to be as of lower status, the reason

behind that is girls are raised from the start like they only allowed to stay at home

and do household chores and on the other hand boys are raised to work for the

sake of their family so that’s why boys are more powerful to decide because they

are the one who gave needs of their family.

A leader is clustered by their style, attribute and personality but gender is

the main aspect that affects their leadership style. During the old days there was

only one gender which is qualified and permitted for the leadership. There was

male dominancy, they thought that only masculine has a chance to work in any

kind of profession.

In a study, a leader must have confidence in followers and the huge

commitment they make to accomplish their vision (Peter baron stark, 2014)

effective leaders are those who genuinely think about follower’s prosperity and

success.
When women are in charge, there is a higher tendency that they will provide a

positive environment for their subordinates. They tend to be more approachable

and they listen to everyone's idea resulting to having a united group. While in

men, they tend to focus on the individual's work rather than as a team which leads

to a competitive atmosphere in their workplace. ( Gartenstein 2019)

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aimed to recognize The Effects of Female and Male Leader

towards Teacher’s Performance in Systems Plus Computer College – Caloocan

City.

Specially, this study sought to answer the following question:

1. What are the effects of having female and male leader in teacher’s

performance?

2. What are the ratings of teachers in their evaluation according to the

academic head?

3. Is there a significant relationship between the effects of having a

female and male leader and the teacher’s performance?


HYPOTHESIS

Ha. There is a significant relationship between the effect of female and male leader

and the teacher’s performance?

Ho. There is no significant relationship between the effect of female and male

leader and the teacher’s performance?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The Effects of Female and Male Leaders towards Teacher’s Performance

in Systems Plus Computer College Caloocan City, is deemed beneficial to the

following group:

Teachers- The teachers will get benefits through this because after this study they

will know how effective their teaching style and they can improve it through

seminar.

School Administration- It also benefits the school administration to be able to

know the strengths and weaknesses about having a female and male leader in

Systems plus Computer College.


Students- It will also benefit the students because they are the one who will earn

the knowledge and to have a deeper understanding if the teachers improve their

teaching style.

Future researchers- The outcome of this study will benefit the future researchers

It will help them to have a reference if they study is related in this research.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study is primarily concerned and Focused in the “Effects of female

and male leaders towards teacher’s performance in the school year 2019-2020.

The sources of data were also limited, full time teachers that under female and

male academic head inside the Systems plus Computer College Caloocan. It will

be conducted with survey and performance ratings of teachers. This situation

covered the school year 2019-2020.
