Course Code: Business 202

Course/Subject Title: Financial Management

Course Description: This course provides an extensive coverage of financial management


theories and its applicability for the financial managers in making financial decisions in a global
context by business enterprises. The major objective of the course is to develop an
understanding and appreciation of Finance theories as they apply to corporate financial
decisions in a globalized business environment and to understand the implications for problem
solving. The focus is on how financial management can create value for the firm. The financial
system will be analyzed at the global, macro and micro levels. At the global and macro levels,
the course will provide a critical scan to better understand the broad financial system
environment at the global and national levels. At the micro level, emphasis of the discussions
shall be on the firm’s structure, strategies and operations.

Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able, among others, to:
 Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of the tools and analysis to
deal with financial decisions in business.
 Provide general methods that is directly applicable to planning/budgeting,
preparation, control and appreciation of financial activities in both manufacturing
and service organization.
 Commercially aware of the similarities and differences, roles of financial managers in
different types of business organization in a global business environment
 Appreciate the benefits of effective and efficient financial management to all
stakeholders.
 Recommend to management the impact of every decision to the financial goals of the
company.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

 The student’s main responsibility is to come to class prepared.


 He/she is expected to take all the tests and examinations on the dates scheduled.
 He/she should read the assigned materials and problems prior to class.
 He/she must attend each class and participate actively in the discussions.
 He/she must bring the required materials and tools which are essential to the course.
 Students will be assigned topics for research and presentation.
 Use of celphone is not allowed during class period.

Course Evaluation
1. Oral report. A periodic activity wherein students are expected to present and discuss their
individual assigned topics, act as resource person on the assigned topic and respond to queries
from the professor and their classmates on the topic assigned. (25%)
2. Attendance/Recitation/Participation. Students are required to act as critics to the students who
are reporting on the assigned topic. The critics are rated based on the relevance of their
comments, queries, or observations on the topic being discussed. (20%)
3. Research/Reaction/Reflection Papers. To be given from time to time to validate the students’
learning of topics discussed. (25%)
4. Final Evaluation (30%)
