PIPE FABRICATOR

1. What information do you get from isometric drawings as a pipe fabricator?

Ans- Spool length, type of fitting, type of flanges, material classification, bill of materials.
2. What Is the Minimum Distance to Be Maintained Between Two Welds in A Pipe?
Ans- Minimum distance between adjacent butt welds is 1D. If not, it is never closer than 1-1/2″.
3. What Is Weldolet And Sockolet? And Where They Are Used?
Ans- Weld let and Sockolet are basically self-reinforced fittings.
Weld let is used for Butt weld branch connection where standard tee is not available
due to size restrictions and the piping is of critical / high-pressure service. Sockolet is used for socket
welding branch connection, which require reinforcing pad.
4. From Which Size Onwards NB Of Pipe Is Equal to OD Of Pipe?
Ans- From the size 14” and onwards NB = OD of pipe.
5. What Is the Difference Between Pipe and Tube?
Ans- Pipe is identified by NB and thickness is defined by Schedule whereas Tube is identified by OD & its
thickness as BWG (Birmingham wire gauge or 1/100 inch).
6. How the Pipe Fittings Are Classified Based on End Connections?
Ans- Pipe fittings are classified based on end connection as: –
o Socket weld fittings, Screwed end fittings., Beveled end or Butt weld fittings, Spigot socket
fittings, Buttress end fittings.
o
7. How Can Flanges Be Classified Based on Facing?
Ans- Flanges are classified based on facing as: –
o Flat face. (FF), Raised face. (R/F), Tongue and groove. (T/G), Male and female. (M/F),
Ring type joint. (RTJ).
o
8. How many types of metal are in steel pipe?
Ans- CS, SS, LT CS, DSS, NACE, Galvanized, Carbon Alloy Steel.

9. How many types of blinds are there?

Ans- Flange blind, spectacle blind, ring spacer blind, spade blind, orifice plate.

10. How many directions are there in isometric drawing?

Ans- 6, north, south, east, west, up & down.

11. How much gap should be given in the pipe joint in TIG & Arc welding?
Ans- TIG- 4mm, Arc- 3mm

12. How many types of bevel are there in piping? What should be the bevel angle?
Ans- Plane bevel, J type bevel, Compound bevel.
37.5degree

13. How many types of Valves you know? What types of pipe joints can be done on
valves?
Ans-Gate, Globe, Check, control, ball valves.
Butt weld,flanged,threaded,socket weld.

14. What is CF in pipe? How to do measurement of CF?

Ans- Pipe Circumference face (CF) diameter.

Pipe OD (outside diameter) x 3.14= CF

15. How to measure pipe OD?
Ans- Upto 12 inch pipe ,same OD after 12 inch
Inch(given) x 25.4 = OD

16. How to Measure the thickness of the pipe?

Ans- For the thickness we have to look for the pipe schedule chart.

17. How many types of pipe supports are there?

Ans- elbow trunnion, pipe trunnion, spring pipe, pipe guide, pipe shoe, clamp pipe support.

18. How many Seam pipes are there?

Ans- Seamless, straight seam, spiral seam pipe.

19. What are the different type of gaskets?

Ans- Full face, Spiral wound, octagonal ring, metal jacketed, inside bolt circle gasket.

20. From which side of pipe you will take branch connection?
Ans- Gas, Air or steam and cryogenic – Top side
Fluid is liquid then --- Bottom side.

21. Can you use the carbon steel gridding or cutting disc for SS pipe?
ANS: (NO) for SS pipe grinding or cutting disc must be used SS material
