I am very thankful for this opportunity to work with your Grade 4, 5, 6 class at Senator
Gershaw. My name is Kenady Layton and I am a fourth-year student at the University of Lethbridge. I
currently hold a B.A./B.Ed. with English Language Arts as my major, which I will complete in April
2021. It was during my English classes at W.R. Myers High School in Taber, Alberta that I fell in love
with English Language Arts and I have continued in my passion with literature and teaching.
I have had amazing experiences being in elementary schools from job shadowing my previous
Kindergarten teacher, to aiding in my mother's Pre-K classroom and assistant coaching in her
basketball and volleyball program. It was a rewarding experience to work with young kids in a
classroom setting and on the court to watch their growth in knowledge and skills that are needed to
accomplish difficult tasks. I also aided the students that came into the library that need assistance
learning to read and I participated with the Speech Pathologist’s assessments of the Pre-K students
because I was considering a masters in Speech Pathology at the time and was taking linguistic courses.
I look forward to using this opportunity to learn how to become a well-rounded and enthusiastic
teacher. I would like to develop the ability to channel my inner passionate, enthusiastic personality to
teaching.
I hope to learn how to create a safe, inclusive learning environment in which I can connect with
the students to help make them feel comfortable and respected.
Thank you for taking the time to teach and guide me in this endeavor. I hope to make a positive
contribution in the lives of your students.
Sincerely,
Kenady Layton
