Mini Case
Need for Ethics

1. What are some of the ethical challenges business leaders face?

• No clear moral intention to guide leaders through ethical dilemmas
- Ethics will help them to take decisions ethically that will not harm the
organization. Also, ethical leadership who bears responsibility will prevent to
cause such damages in the organization.
• Ill-equipped
- Ethics will help them to consistently adhere to the rules following their own
ethical standard serves as an inspiration to the people, indicating that leaders
should stand by their core values.

2. What are/is the role of business ethics in improving corporate strategy and
community development?
- It helps to manage business resources, risk and return across a firm, as opposed
to looking at a competitive advantages in business strategy. It entails a clearly
defined, long-term vision that organization set, seeking to create corporate value
and motivate the workforce to implement the proper actions. It also improves the
community development where people come together to take action on what's important
to them and to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems.

3. Why do you think some companies meglect pursuance of business ethics in their
organization?
- Some companies neglect the pursuance of business because for them ethics is not
considered a part of the company's drcision making. In other words, decisions are
made by experts who only consider their limited field and overlook the implications
of their decisions. Also, individual predominates in business because everyone has
their own interest and agendas. The idea of what is ethical will bother them
because it doesn't allow to do their things on their own way.

Mini - Case
Banning the Real Thing

1. Which ethical standards are being violated here?

• In our understanding, the ethical standard that being violated is not
having enough good practices in the company and the unethical labor practices. The
ethical standards that being violated are the use of solidwaste disposal, overuse
of pesticides in India and lack of sufficient irrigation water. They act unethical
in regards to the compliance which lead to negative result of the company.

2. Is the University being unreasonable in the high standards demanded in its

vendor code of conduct?
• For us, the university is not being unreasonable because they
prioritize the safety of the vendor and they want the vendors to sell a good
quality products. The university is being fair and just.

3. Do you think the University would have developed the vendor code of conduct w/o
the aggresive campaign put forward by sole?
• No, because if they will not resort in aggresiveness of their campaign
it will not be effective and most of their vendor will not obey the code of
conduct.

4. How should Coca-cola respond in order to keep the University of Michigan

contracts?
• Our group think that the company of Coca-cola should handle
satisfactory progress in terms of their labor practices and they should prioritize
the environment. They should immediately comply to the vendor code of conduct of
the university so that the university will let the company of Coca Cola sell it's
products again in the university.

5. How would you relate the situation in the local environment?

• The local government sometimes didn't think about the effects of their
businesses to the environment and sometimes they have unethical labor practices
because they value gaining profits than thinking the health of their employees and
the environment. For example, some of the local government have poor facilities or
offers poor products/services to hoard the funds that they gain through the taxes
of the people or in other words, they corrupt the money of the people for their own
benefit.
