Foundations of counselling and psychotherapy

1. As philosophical counselors please provide a set of appropriate strategies you

could use to assess the client’s difficulties. How should a philosophical counselor
differentiate between a normal client and one diagnosed with a mental disorder?
2. The mere fact that someone engages in counseling as well as the content of the
difficulties discussed within any session should be kept confidential. However,
there a certain situations that entitles the counselor to break the confidentiality
(known as the limits of confidentiality). Under what circumstances a counselor
could break the confidentiality / what are the limits of confidentiality?
3. Contemporary scientific evidence support a number of intervention strategies as
effective means of reducing psychopathology. Mental health professionals who
integrate these effective interventions into their practice are known as evidence-
based practitioners. To what extant a philosophical counselor should guide
his/her work by this standard? Is it ethical to use less effective intervention
strategies for a specific problem just because the counselor is not familiar with or
does not like the evidence-based effective intervention strategies?
