Design and Fabrication of a Motor Operated

Can Crusher
Supervised by Dr. Nader Ghareeb

Project Brief:
Waste treatment refers to the activities required to ensure that waste has the least
practicable impact on the environment. The initial and most practical phase in waste
treatment is to reduce the amount or size of waste prior to sorting it and processing it into
further reusable materials to save primary resources.
The basic concept of this project is to design and build a motor operated machine that is
capable of crushing beverage cans and collecting them in bags. This can crusher must
be easily movable from one place to another and it must fulfill all the pillars of
sustainability. Initial calculations will include the size of the machine, the amount of
pressing force needed, the motor power and torque required, the adequate size, speed
and acceleration of the pressing piston, etc…
Good knowledge in Materials, Statics, Solid mechanics and Engineering plant design is
required for this project.
