What are your strengths?

My strengths are the following care, control, challenge, captive and confer

How do you display these strengths in class?

I display these strengths all throughout the classroom whether it is whole group or individually
with the students. I ask my students questions about their night and/or weekend. Whenever
someone is struggling or upset I show my attention to them and show them I care. During
centers, I go around to each group making sure they know what they should be doing. In the
class, I ask higher level questions to get the students thinking, but they are not too hard. I make
sure everyone is trying their best on their work and not wanting to give up. I try to connect real
life experiences that the students know about the lessons being taught. I also try to make it to
their interest. Therefore playing educational videos and making crafts keeps the students
interested in the activity they are doing. The students always have the opportunity to ask
questions during class. While the students are in their groups at their desks, they are able to share
ideas and talk about the questions that are being asked, we call it a turn and talk but they talk to
their whole group rather than just one other person.
What areas are weaker for you?
Clarify and consolidate showed weakness in the data chart.
What can you do to grow in these areas?
As a future teacher, reflecting on lessons after they are taught is very important when it comes to
moving forward with other lessons. To grow in the two areas, clarify and consolidate, I need to
explain the lesson more and to check to see if the students understand the topic. I also need to
work on reviewing and summarizing the lesson. I need to ask questions to make sure I know that
the students understand what they are to be doing. When the students are done, I need to provide
constructive feedback whether it is verbally or written feedback. Once the lesson or activity is
done, I need to wrap the lesson up with some type of closure to review what the students learned
during that lesson. This could be a simply exit slip, class discussion or a turn and talk with the
students.
When moving into student teaching next semester, I can use this information to help grow in
those areas. When planning a lesson and making sure I have a closure and stick with that closure
is going to be crucial. When planning for a closure and making sure it is fun and interactive
where the students will participate is important. I need to really work on the section clarify.
Clarifying the lesson for the students so that they fully understand what they are doing is going
to be a main point. When looking back from grade school and even college, I always liked
constructive feedback from my teacher, which is something I also need to do for my students and
not just say good job or good work. I plan to research ways to give constructive feedback and
activities to do to see if the students fully understanding the material being taught. By doing
research, this will help me become an effective teacher in the classroom.
