Analysis of the short story " How my brother Leon brought home a
wife by Manuel Arguilla"
Characters:

Leon or Noel- the older brother of Baldo and the husband of Maria

Baldo- the brother of Leon who is narrating the story

Maria- wife of Leon

Labang- the bull that brought Leon and Maria home

Father- the father of Leon who instructed him

Setting:

In a farming village in Negrabcan, Bauang, La Union around 1930's.

Conflict:

Man vs. Himself- Maria against herself

Man vs. Society- the situation that Leon and Baldo is living on.

Point of view:

First person-to-person Baldo is the one narrating the story

Theme:

The journey of life and how we surpass life's trial

Life status has nothing to do with love

Do not judge the book by its cover

Literary devices:

Simile- "her voice flawed into his like a gentle stream meeting a stronger one"

Personification- " Now the shadows took froght and did not crowds near"
