What we’re learning

Our Bible stories for these weeks are “Jesus Teaches About Love,” “Jesus Teaches
about God’s Care,” “The Faith of a Captain,” and “The Gentile Woman’s Faith”. Jesus
cares for his people and is the ultimate example of love for us. We will be reading
“Sweet Potato Pie,” “The Big Mess,” and “The Little Red Hen” in our basal reading
books. Our work with short “o” words will be combined with short “e” words and double
ending consonants (fell, mess etc.) Math will include telling time to the hour, counting
dimes, subtracting 0, estimating capacity, counting by 2’s, and drawing pictures to
solve problems. For language we are identifying and writing telling and question
sentences. Our classroom goals for this quarter are writing numbers correctly, writing
neatly, and learning the Christmas program.

Assignments
Here are some options for challenging your child:
• Math-Estimating how many cups of water are in the pitcher, how many raisins are in
the container, how many paperclips are in the jar etc.
• Writing– Have a conversation using telling and question sentences by writing and
passing a whiteboard/paper back and forth. One person writes a question and
passes the whiteboard. The other person uses a complete telling sentence to
answer and passes the whiteboard back.
• Reading– Read cereal boxes, signs, and labels around the house and figure out tough
words by chunking (finding little words or familiar sounds within a big word).
