Animal Testing
I’ve always been fascinated by science and animals. In one of my history classes in sixth grade,
we talked about how Egyptians first started testing humans to see how they we react to certain
chemicals. After a couple of years of doing this they finally evolved to animals. This was the
first time I’d heard about animal testing and was so infatuated with it. I wanted to know why we
started testing animals and how we knew what animals were best to test with substances before
they gave them to humans. How do scientists know which animals have biological similarities to
humans. I also wanted to know who started it, but no one can really narrow it down to one
person.
My feelings go back and forth when I talk about animal testing. I can see how it can have
a positive affect and negative affect, but I believe the positive outweighs the negative. Now I still
don’t like the idea of testing animals who didn’t get to decide on what happens to themselves,
but I just have to see the brighter side of it. With this topic I’m going to discuss different types of
animal testing such as cosmestic testing, chemical testing, and many others. I think this topic can
be very sensitive for certain people and can go into some intense evidence to believe either side
of the topic. I know that there are a lot of animals that have similar immune systems, behaviors,
and emotions. I know that the main animals of choice is mice, rabbits, and guinea pigs. Although

I believe in animal rights and animal welfare, testing animals is safer for the wellbeing of
humans.
I have so many questions that I hope get answered with this project. I want to know how
they chose what animals were best to use for getting the conclusion they wanted. I want to know
what are the big projects they are focusing on this year and what they are hoping to accomplish.
I’m going to try and find out what animal was the first or the earilest known to be used in animal
testing and what they figured out. I want to also fit in PETA in my final project, because I know
they have very strong facts and opinions on it.I’m going to find out all the positives and
negatives of using animals instead of humans for testing. This will be a very interesting subject
