Reflection Paper No.1

Unit I: The Concept of Curriculum

Curriculum has something to do with education wherein the status of the society in the
future depends upon it. It merely reflects the demands and needs of the society so therefore
education is the mirror of the society. To cater the needs and demands, curriculum should be well
planned and systematically be implemented to avoid inevitable things that can destroy human
race and so as degrading it. Furthermore, curriculum must possesses carefully selected contents
and methodologies that can help build up the progress in community. In deeper sense, education
is more like a factory and the citizens are the inputs or the raw materials, after undergoing the
quality control of the factory, it may now able to produce quality graduates, who will contribute
for the common good for all.

As one of the workers of the so called “factory”, there are a lot to be in mind if we want
the best for our products! And it will really depends on us on how well we handle them, how we
hone them and inject intangible things that will be part of their personality and help them become
the person they ought to be. And speaking of how, there are specified perspective of the
curriculum that are being used as the part of the teaching-learning process consciously and
unconsciously. As for my part, being a teacher is not an easy task to say but I’m grateful enough
that God gave me the opportunity of embracing such vocation; it’s more than a blessing for it is
my life! But of course, human as I am I made a lot of mistakes in my profession and I humbly
accept my negligence sometimes, especially that the department of education demands a lot of
things and needed to be accomplished in a due time though I’m not bubbling my compliance but
it’s a fact for sometimes it really affects undeniably my performance and if you asked me what
perspective our curriculum is based, then may I say that is it includes the fantastic four concepts
which are the Rationalist, Empiricist, Pragmatist, and Existentialist. The main reason why I
believe it so because all of them are aiming to give something with regards to the teaching-
learning process though there are things that we tend to object but the bottom line is, it is
implemented for the goodness for all. The administrators are the ones who manage to plan the
said curriculum but with the approval of the majority (community) and see to that it is what the
society needs from them. It is in education really that we can create future leaders that would
lead the society to success.

In contribution, to the said topic (curriculum) my obligation is to do my work religiously.

And though I could never say that I knew it all because I don’t. But the important thing is that I
know what I am doing as a teacher. And there are a lot of things to be confused about especially
in my position but I have with me the biggest faith, that God is the one who teaches my pupils
and I am only an instrument. HE is the model teacher that I can never be but I’m blissful enough
to be his child.
