III. PROCEDURES
A. Engagement 1. Review the previous lesson:
Let the learners complete the table by writing the appropriate measuring
tools and unit of measures to measure the following objects
Instrument Unit of measures

Length of a pencil
Length of the classroom
School to your house
Earth to Mars
2. Establishing a purpose for the lesson:
Call the shortest and the tallest pupil from the class and will let them to
measure the length of a piece of wood using their body parts. The teacher
will record the measurement on the board.
Ask the learners the following questions:
1. How will you describe the measurement of the two pupils?
2. Why do you think their measurements vary?
3. What shall we do to obtain accurate measurement?
2. What are the disadvantages of using non-standard unit of measures in
getting the length, speed or distance travelled by an object?
3. Why do you think elastic measuring tape cannot be used to measure the
distance?
B. Exploration 3. Presenting Examples/ instances of the new lesson:
Form a group of learners into five for a group discussion as their activity.
Each group must do the following:

 Each member must share their ideas about the importance of


using appropriate measuring tools and standard units and the
advantages of using apropriate measuring tools and unit of
measures to their group.
 List down all the information and idea came from the group
members .

C. Explanation 4. Discussing new concept and practicing new skills #1


Based from their group activity, let the learners present their work in front
by sharing their gathered ideas from group members about some
appropriate measuring tools and its importance.

Ask learners some questions regarding the lesson
1. Why do you think there is standard unit for measuring the length?
Distance? Speed? Time?
2. What are the disadvantages of using non-standard unit of measures in
getting the length, speed or distance travelled by an object?
3. Why do you think elastic measuring tape cannot be used to measure the
distance?

Ask learners to answer the following orally by choosing some volunteers
from the class.
