Journal Title: Life in a fast-changing world of a teacher

Since the day I was born, there’s a mark that have shaped me to conquer the world of

teaching. Then a sudden question that might have etched traces and mysteries in the mind of the

reader, “How?” When I was delivered by my mother, August 1, 1998 to be exact, I liberated from

her womb with my hands open. Another wave of question that will bump the reader’s mind to

confusion, “What’s the connection? Is there any significant phase to decipher with that certain

happening?” With these set of questions, I rest my introduction here.

A teacher is a giver. A giver lends a wide open hands. This is an analogy that will set a

person to have an intense realization that the teacher has his/her hands to lend and bridge the needs

of the learners towards success. As I started teaching in Agusan National High School – Senior

High School, it’s indeed a big challenge to triumph. A sudden changes in all aspects and phases of

my life as a person, as a human, and as a teacher. There are a lot of things to consider in terms of

being a co-teacher, a friend, a teacher, and sometimes an enemy as the worst case. Yet, all of these

were only hard in the first stage of transition in the world of realm – being a teacher. Now, I’ve

learned to fill the gaps in the teaching and learning process. I might be strict, lioness, and

sometimes often called as one of the terrors, yet I assure learnings that my students may bring

throughout their lives. A fast-changing world of a teacher means the life that revolves within the

context of learning, values shaping, love sharing, and most of all pursuing success.

An open hands represent teachers in the world. They might come up into different sizes,

color, and texture yet they have the same skill that no one could make – it is shaping the learners,

molding the world.

Journal Title: Teacher as a Leader

Life begins with leadership. It is all about embracing all aspects in life that will lead you

to become a wholesome person. When I was a kid, I kept on imagining myself standing in front of

many people, presenting a declamation, receiving awards, a representative from school, and a

person who has an opportunity to share experiences. The time passed by, I’ve made it with God,

through him, I’ve experienced it all. When I graduated college, I told myself that there is a reason

for achieving the degree with honor, not to brag with others, instead to inspire them.

Now, I have the chance to change the world through leadership, leading my students to

choose the right track they want to take in life. Teaching students to acquire knowledge that they

may use in the academic fields, shaping their attitudes towards life betterment, guiding their

actions to create a good change. The summation of these efforts clearly signifies that teaching is

leading students to become a holistic person from now, and until the end.

The core of teaching is heading the students towards success, guiding students in

excellence, and uplifting students living a journey with a light called life. I cannot imagine my

standing right now if my teachers of before weren’t able to lead me the way that I want it to be.

Journal Title: The dreams of my students are my dreams too!

A short and simple title but means a lot. A dream is a series of thoughts and visions that

are created through imagination. As a teacher, I don’t want to let these visions and thoughts be just

a dream, I want to let my students grasp the opportunity to achieve the visions and live their

imaginations in real life through success.

The pinnacle of success as a teacher is seeing your students become a star. Not just a simple

and dull star but a star that will explode that causes it to become extremely light called supernova.

I want to be the part of their blockbuster stage, wherein they can share the learnings to others that

they have gained from me.

Teaching is sharing learnings, and learning from the teaching is achieving dreams. An

analogy that tells a story of a teaching and learning process not just by acquiring knowledge but

shaping the world through my students.

WHO AM I AS A LEADER?

Leader is a word composed of six letters but comprises everything. It has a big range that

covers holistic phases of individual lives. On my stand, a teacher is a leader. I am the one who

leads my students to achieve learnings in life that they may use until their breath rests. In becoming

a leader, emphasizing as supervisor highlights authenticity – authenticity in all aspects. A

confusion and a doubtful thought may arise in a way like this, maybe the ‘real me’ isn’t the most

effective supervisor, but if I can just act the way an effective supervisor should act and get good

results. Let’s imagine and put ourselves to the situation I’ve experienced, for example, that you

are running a brainstorming meeting and someone comes up with an idea that you think is pretty

stupid. Let’s also imagine that patience is not your strong suit, so you shoot back with something

like: “That’s a dumb idea.” Not very nice, but you’re the supervisor and in a way, it is authentic,

isn’t it? With this, how are you going to handle this?

Now let’s imagine a different response to your subordinate’s idea. You have learned —

from experience, practice, and your self-awareness — that your impatience with that idea might

well be a signal that you don’t understand what your subordinate really meant. If you knew more

about what he was thinking, his idea might not seem so stupid. And with this, you will realize that

being a leader is another life of one’s existence that needs more reflections.

As a supervisor it is all about touching the lives of your team to create a home of

understanding. Try to live the life of your subordinates to have an open and welcoming

environment to build a strong connections to maintain good relationship that develops time by
time. Instead of having a triangle that represents the ranking system of my administration, we will

walk in a line that helps each other, no one is ahead, and no one should be left behind. We will

fight for any challenges that might arise in the future.

For me, there is no standard and exact definition of a good leader. It is innate in you. Instead

a constant question that will float on your mind: “How can I lead from a position of respect, trust,

and loyalty?” The answer to this question, and the basis for gaining the respect, trust, and loyalty

of your team, is not in how you lead, but rather in the kind of person you are and the relationships

you build with your team.

I will end this with a quote from Stephen King: Monsters are real and ghosts are real too

they live inside us and sometimes they win.

Journal Title: My Avowal towards Global Education as a Teacher

Global education has a broad embrace to global needs of individuals. Global education

enables people to understand the links between their own lives and those of people throughout

the world. Increases understanding of the economic, cultural, political and environmental

influences which shape our lives. Develops the skills, attitudes and values which enable people

to work together to bring about change and take control of their own lives. Works towards

achieving a more just and sustainable world in which power and resources are more equitably

shared. Global education places particular emphasis on curriculum process as well as content and

is accordingly characterized by approaches to teaching and learning which are both experiential

and participatory. It draws on two long-standing traditions within education.

` Today's students literally have the world at their fingertips. Their competency in

technology surpasses that of any previous generation- through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and

other forms of social media. The massive scope of the internet brings the world into their homes

and access to information is immediate and endless. However, many 21st century students lack a

commensurate knowledge base about global issues. Global Education is the essential key to

preparing students for their roles in an increasingly global society.

As a teacher, I am upholding the teachings and virtues of globalizing teaching in all aspects

and fields of interests between the teaching and learning process. Global education highlights

revolution, it might occur in a radical, silent, and through actions just to fill the gaps and connect

what has learned of before will never be right of today’s view. Global education works towards

achieving a more just and sustainable world in which power and resources are more equitably

shared.

. As a teacher, helps students to develop the skills, attitudes and values which enable people

to work together to bring about change and take control of their own lives.

I want to end this with a tagline, Teachers are educating for global competence, we are

preparing our youth to change and engage in the world of revolution called life.
