Direction: List down the substeps in every major steps in computer assembly

and disassembly.

Steps in Computer Assembly:


1. Detach the side cover case by unscrewing all the screws in
counterclockwise direction.
1.1 Remove watches or jewelry.
1.2 Turn off and unplug equipment.
1.3 Wear anti-static wrist strap and mat
1.4 Remove the side cover case by sliding it
2. Install power supply.
2.1 Align the screws on the power supply with the mount on the
computer case
2.2 Screw the power supply into place
3. Install the motherboard inside the computer case and re-attach one by
one the CPU, CPU fan with heat sink assembly, and RAM.
3.1 Install the CPU
a) Orient the CPU to the CPU slot.
b) Press the CPU into the CPU slot.
c) Lock the CPU into place.
d) Apply thermal paste to the CPU.
e) Install the heatsink.
f) Secure the heatsink.
g) Plug the fan connector to the motherboard.
3.2 Install the RAM
a) Open the RAM slot levers.
b) Orient the RAM chip to the motherboard slot.
c) Lower the RAM chip into the slot.
d) Press down firmly to lock the RAM chip.
3.3 Install the motherboard
a) Align the motherboard in the correct direction.
b) Locate the standoffs.
c) Install the standoffs in the computer case.
d) Align I/O plate to back of computer case.
e) Lower motherboard into place.
f) Install the screws into the standoffs.
4. Install the internal drives such as (HDD IDE , HDD SATA, SSD) and
external bays such as (Floppy Disk Drive (FDD) and Optical Disk Drive
(ODD)
4.1 Install the Hard Disc Drive
a) Position the HDD so that it aligns with the drive bay opening. The
power and interface connectors should be facing out toward the
motherboard.
b) Insert the HDD into the drive bay so that the screw holes in the
drive line up with screw holes in the case.
c) Secure the HDD into the case using the proper screws.
4.2 Install the Optical Drive
a) From the front of the case, choose the drive bay that you want to
hold the drive. Remove the face plate from the bay if necessary.
b) Position the optical drive so that it aligns with the drive bay
opening at the front of the case.
c) Insert the optical drive into the drive bay so that the optical drive
screw holes align with the screw holes in the case.
d) Secure the optical drive to the case using the proper screws and
remove the small metal cover.
5. Install adapter cards such as Video card, NIC, Wireless NIC, and Sound
card.
5.1 Install the Wireless NIC
a) Locate a compatible expansion slot for the Wireless NIC on the
motherboard.
b) Remove the slot cover from the back of the case, if necessary.
c) Align the wireless NIC to the expansion slot.
d) Press down gently on the wireless NIC until the card is fully seted.
e) Secure the wireless NIC by attaching the PC mounting bracket to
the case with a screw.
5.2 Install the Video Adapter Card
a) Find an empty PCIe x16 slot on the case and remove the small
metal cover.
b) Align the video adapter card to the appropriate expansion slot on
the motherboard.
c) Press down gently on the video adapter until it is fully seated.
d) Secure the video adapter card mounting bracket to the case with
the appropriate screw.
6. Install all internal cables such as 20-pin or 24-pin slotted connector, 4-
pin auxiliary power connector, SATA keyed connector, Berg keyed
connector, Molex keyed connector, PATA IDE/EIDE cable, FDD cable,
and SATA cable.
6.1 Align the 24-pin ATX power connector to the socket on the
motherboard.
6.2 Gently press down on the connector until the clip clicks into place.
6.3 Align the 4-pin auxiliary power connector to the socket on the
motherboard.
6.4 Gently press down on the connector on the connector until the clip
clicks into place.
6.5 Align the CPU fan power connector to the socket on the
motherboard.
6.6 Gently press down on the connector until the clip clicks into place.
6.7 Align the SATA cable and plug one end into the motherboard
socket.
6.8 Align the other end of the SATA cable and plug it into the smaller
SATA port on the drive.
7. Attach the side cover case by screwing all the screws in clockwise
direction.
7.1 Place the side panel cover onto the case and slide it closed.
7.2 Tighten any screws to secure the side panel cover.
8. Attach the external cables of the computer such AC power cord, Mouse
and Keyboard, VGA cable, UTP/LAN cable, and etc.
8.1 Plug the power cable into the power supply.
8.2 Orient and connect USB cables to USB ports.
8.3 Orient and connect the video cable to the video port on the video
adapter.
8.4 Tighten the video cable screws to the video adapter.
8.5 Connect the network cable to the Ethernet port.
8.6 Connect the audio cables to the audio ports.

Steps in Computer Disassembly:


1. Detach the external cables of the computer such AC power cord, Mouse
and Keyboard, VGA cable, UTP/LAN cable, and etc.
1.1 Disconnect the audio cables to the audio ports.
1.2 Disconnect the network cable to the Ethernet port.
1.3 Unscrew the video cable screws to the video adapter.
1.4 Disconnect the video cable to the video port on the video adapter.
1.5 Disconnect the USB cables to USB ports.
1.6 Unplug the power cable into the power supply.
2. Detach the side cover case by unscrewing all the screws in
counterclockwise direction.
2.1 Remove screws from the side cover case.
2.2 Remove/slide the side cover case from the computer case.
2.3 Make sure that you removed your jewelries, watches etc.
2.4 Orient yourself to the CPU by touching it; self grounding.
3. Detach all internal cables such as 20-pin or 24-pin slotted connector, 4-
pin auxiliary power connector, SATA keyed connector, Berg keyed
connector, Molex keyed connector, PATA IDE/EIDE cable, FDD cable,
and SATA cable.
3.1 Remove the SATA cable by unplugging one end into the
motherboard socket.
3.2 Remove the PATA IDE/EIDE and the FDD cable.
3.3 Disconnect the CPU fan connector by pulling on the connector end.
3.4 Gently press on the 4 pin auxiliary power connector and gently
unplug it from the motherboard.
3.5 Gently press on the 24-pin ATX power connector and unplug it.
4. Detach adapter cards such as Video card, NIC, Wireless NIC, and Sound
card.
4.1 Unscrew the video adapter card mounting bracket
4.2 Gently remove the video adapter card.
4.3 Remove the wireless NIC by unscrewing the PC mounting bracket
to the case.
4.4 Gently remove the wireless NIC.
5. Detach internal drives such as (HDD IDE, HDD SATA, SSD) and external
bays such as (Floppy Disk Drive (FDD) and Optical Disk Drive (ODD).
5.1 Locate the internal drives
5.2 Unscrew the screws that are securing the optical drive.
5.3 Gently remove the optical drive by pushing it outwards.
5.4 Unscrew the screws that are securing the HDD

6. Detach the motherboard inside the computer case and remove one by
one the RAM, CPU fan with heat sink assembly, and CPU.
6.1 Remove the motherboard
a) Unscrew the screws that attach the motherboard to the case
b) Gently remove the motherboard on the computer case
6.2 Remove the RAM
a) Locate the RAM
b) Press down the side tabs, the RAM would then be unlocked
c) Gently remove the RAM from the motherboard and the computer
case
6.3 Remove the CPU
a) Unplug the fan connector into the motherboard
b) Remove the CPU fan.
c) Remove the heatsink
7. Detach the power supply.
7.1 Unscrew the power supply to the case.
