Hong Kong riot police and protesters braced early on Thursday (Jun 13) for
possible further clashes across the city's financial district after a day of violence
over an extradition Bill that would allow people to be sent to mainland China for
trial. As of 10pm on Wednesday evening, 72 people had been hospitalised,
including two classified as serious, according to the Hong Kong Hospital Authority

An uneasy calm had settled over the city after police fired rubber bullets,
tear gas and pepper spray in a series of skirmishes to clear demonstrators from the
city's legislatu The extradition Bill has sparked unusually wide concerns, both
locally and internationally, that it risks further encroachment from Chinese
officials and threatens the rule of law that underpins its international financial

Anchor 1: Liberal party lawmakers files resolution amending Rice Tariffication

Liberal Party lawmakers at the House of Representatives will file a joint

resolution to amend the Rice Tariffication Law amid the continuous drop in prices
of palay supposedly caused by the law.

In a statement, Occidental Mindoro Representative Josephine Ramirez-

Sato confirmed reports that prices of palay in the region have gone down to P7 to
P8, as relayed to her by the farmers themselves. " Occidental Mindoro Rep.
Josephine Ramirez-Sato and Quezon City Rep. Jose Christopher Belmonte
expressed their intent to file a joint resolution to amend Republic Act No. 11203,

or the rice tariffication law, which led to the unimpeded importation of rice with
corresponding tariffs.

Belmonte said he and his colleagues in the Liberal Party would push for the
measure to help the executive department explore more sources of funding for
direct cash transfers for farmers to “help save them.” The Makabayan bloc, on the
other hand, said the plight of local farmers necessitated more drastic action,
particularly the repeal of the law.

ANCHOR 2: Over 100 Chinese workers in Bataan plant contract dengue Over 120
Chinese nationals working at a coal plant in Mariveles, Bataan have been afflicted
with dengue virus.

. Citing Bataan provincial health officer Rosanna Buccahan, the report states
the spike in dengue cases among workers at the coal plant may have been due to
the poor cleanliness at the facility, especially at the barracks where the Chinese
workers were staying, she also said 94 of the Chinese workers contracted the virus
at their barracks inside the plant from May to July. The remaining 24 cases were
recorded this month and most of them were taken to Pampanga Medical Specialist
Hospital. Health and sanitation personnel from the local government inspected the
premises of GNPower and found several breeding grounds of mosquitoes in July
and August. After the inspections, BUCCAHAN declared a dengue outbreak inside
the power plant .

Buccahan says they carried out three cycles of fogging operation to destroy
the breeding grounds that were found near the workers’ barracks. Bataan Board

Member Godofredo Galicia Jr., chair of the provincial board’s committee on
health, said local health officials should monitor the dengue cases in this town.

. Apart from the Chinese workers, 278 other dengue cases have been reported in
this town this year, he said.

Malacañang on Friday said the death of screen legend Eddie Garcia

was a “heartbreaking loss” for the entertainment industry where he thrived for
seven decades. Garcia died last Thursday after suffering from a neck fracture
during a taping for a GMA television show recently. Presidential spokesperson
Salvador panelo states that It is a heartbreaking loss for the entertainment industry,

which he dearly loved. Manoy died with his boots on, in a manner of speaking,
doing what he loved most – acting.

Panelo expressed Palace’s “deepest condolences” to the family, friends,

colleagues, fans and loved ones of Garcia and prayed for the actor’s eternal repose.
“Mr. Eddie Garcia, popularly known as ‘Manoy,’ left an indelible mark in the
hearts and minds of Filipino moviegoers and audience, with a career that spanned
nearly seven decades,” Panelo said. “His immense contributions were nonpareil for
he was the only Filipino inducted in three categories in the FAMAS Hall of Fame
as Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Director by far.” Garcia was 90
