Course Requirements

 Midterm (40%)+Final(40%)+Assignments(20%)=grade

The Final exam will cover only the topics that will be covered after
the midterm exam.

Late submissions of HW will cost you 20 points per day.

Grades are important, I will do my best to treat everyone fairly.

Nevertheless, your course grade is based on the average score,

computed from assignments and exams.

No extra credit or additional work is offered, and grades cannot be

negotiated.
Course Requirements

Take the homework assignments seriously

Work with your classmates for your HW

Just one solution per working team (indicating all the

participants’ name on it)

A working team can have at most 3 members.

Course Requirements

You are responsible from all material covered during the

class

You are strongly encouraged to attend the classes.

If, for any reason, you have to miss a lecture (or part of
it), make prior arrangements with another student to take
careful notes for you and to sit with you and explain their
notes afterward.

Do not ask me or your TAs to "fill you in" on what

you missed.
Rules of Conduct

 Do not cheat!
cheat
Otherwise, I will do my best
If you think we don’t see you while you are cheating
YOU ARE SO WRONG !!

If I see someone “just” checking his buddy’s paper, I

will warn the entire class (hey guys, don’t look around)
I will warn the class two times
If you still look at your buddy, I will take your paper
and
you will get only the 50% of what you did
(even if it was your first time of checking your buddy’s paper)
Rules of Conduct

If you literally cheat but cannot prove it I will take

your paper and give you “0”

If you literally cheat and I can prove it (notes written

on small papers)

I will take your paper and give you a “0”

And
send you to discipline committee
which will most probably give you detention for a
semester or a year!!!
Make-up exams
• Granted only in case of a valid and documented
reason.
• In case of an illness, bring a formal doctor’s note from
a hospital
• A note taken from a doctor’s private practice does not
count.
• Otherwise, the doctor’s note has to be verified by the
university health service.
• Submit the doctor’s notes within a week following the
midterm date.
• Absence in exams without any valid documentation
will result of a “0” from that exam.
Some More Rules
• You *can* drink, eat and even sleep in class
• Read newspapers
• Surf online, chat online (Facebook !!)

But
• Don’t make it so obvious!
• You *can’t* chat with your friends in class!! (I am
pretty sensitive on this)

I mean
• Don’t disturb me or your classmates
I make the rules, so if you try to manipulate and misuse my
good intentions
I don’t hesitate to punish the whole class
(e.g.)
I may cancel an exam
Or change the whole grading scheme all together
even if only few students cheat in an exam

I do respect you all without your

status
ethnical or religious background
political, ideological or sexual preferences

THUS
I expect the same in return
Not just me.
To everyone in this class
SOOOOOOOOOOOO
If you agree on the rules of the Game
You are more than welcome
BUT

Please *don’t* call me HOCAM

Just Selcuk
It is perfectly fine for me
