Chloride is one of the most common anions found in tap water. It generally combines with
calcium, magnesium, or sodium to form various salts: for example sodium chloride (NaCl) is
formed when chloride and sodium combine.
How to remove chloride from water?
The good news is that chlorides can easily be removed from water with either a reverse osmosis
system or a distiller.
What is the maximum strength of chlorides in water containing calcium or magnesium cations?
When calcium or magnesium is the cation, up to 1000 mg/L can be tolerated without a salty taste
to the water.
What is disadvantge of high concentration of chlorides?
At levels greater than this, sodium chloride can complicate existing heart problems and
contribute to high blood pressure when ingested in excess.
When salts that contain chlorine (NaCl, LiCl, CaCl₂, NH₄Cl) dissolve in water, chloride ions will
be released
During winter and spring and during times of low flow in the summer and fall, chloride levels
can exceed 800mg/L,
What are the harmful effects of high content chloride water on crops?
Brine water affects the fertility of soil severely and it becomes detrimental to the green plants
and agricultural crop, when used for irrigation work.
Drinking Water Regulations recommend a maximum concentration of 250 mg/1 for chloride ions
