Each team member will write and contribute three paragraphs and a photograph of themselves.

You will describe something about who you were before coming to the University and the places
you liked to frequent; you will describe what the place you have studied has come to mean to
you; you will use course concepts of place to discuss why the place you studied is an important
part of the Chico Experience. Some of this material will likely already exist in your Travel
Blogs.

Before coming to CSU Chico, I was a small town girl. While Chico is also a fairly small town, to
me it’s huge. Driving to the grocery store here takes me 10 minutes, while in my hometown it
would’ve taken me 30 seconds to walk across the street to the closest grocery store. I always
thought to myself that when I left home to go to school in a big city it would be a dream come
true. I now find myself missing the quiet and the peace that comes with growing up in a town of
7,000 people. I miss the quiet of the parks where I would walk my dog and the rippling of the
creek where I would swim and hang out with my childhood friends. Visiting the Chico State
Campus Anthropology Museum reminded me to cherish home because it cherishes other
people’s homes, whether literally or figuratively. The museum values different cultures, and
displays artifacts that represent them. Visiting this place showed me that there are so many
different and interesting cultures that have different values than mine, but that we have one thing
in common. We all value our homes, where our culture and traditions are nurtured and grow. It
reminded me of my home and my family, and helped me to feel more connected to them.
Learning about other cultures can help you feel more connected to your own. Visiting this place
is definitely an important part of the Chico Experience because we have so much diversity on
campus. It is so important to have an open mind and be aware of cultures other than your own,
and this museum can help you do that. Growing up in such a small town, I was not exposed to
many different cultures. Coming here to Chico was very different for me, and one thing that
helped me to adjust was the museum. If you’re interested, definitely take the time to visit the
museum. It’s worth it.

The place you study will be a type of place that exists elsewhere in the world. Your library
research will allow you to discover the history, uses and versions of places like the one you are
visiting and coming to know. An interesting history of the place type should be included in your
Guidebook, based on the research everyone on the team conducted. Remember to include
citations. In this section you should also include information about the history of the specific
place you are studying. How did this specific place come to be? How is it similar to or different
from other places of the same type? (2 sources/works cited & 400 words)
