1 INTRODUCTION
The installation procedure consists of different operations to be carried out in the order shown in
the flow chart below.

The various operations indicated are described in detail in the following paragraphs.
NOTE: the radiological system is normally pre-installed and configured in the factory according to
the specific requirements of the customer. Certain adjustments may, however, be necessary when
components are replaced.
The whole machine parameter adjustment procedure is described in detail in this manual..

2 UNPACKING
The radiological system is packed in a single case containing all the parts of the apparatus. To
unpack the unit, proceed as described on the following paragraph, according to the type of packing:
simple pallet with cellophane – See § 2.1
pallet with carton – See § 2.2
wood packing crate – See § 2.3
If necessary, follow the unpacking procedure backwards to pack the unit again.

3 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
The power supply single-phase alternate voltage and maximum absorbed current values are
reported both on the unit label and on the technical data in the user manual.
Make sure that the power supply socket is approved for the values reported on the
! unit label
4 ACCEPTANCE TEST
The ACCEPTANCE TEST includes three main kinds of operations:
checking cables and connectors
mechanical checks
electrical checks

NOTE: Remove the carters to carry out the electrical checks (See Section 2 - § 2.1.1).
If the dosimeter is not calibrated, or is not connected to the apparatus correctly, or does
not work correctly, the message “DAP error” will be displayed on the touch screen. To
solve the problem, See Section 2 - § 2.2
C.3 CHECK THE SOFTWARE: enter set-up parameter as described in Section 3 - § 3, and check
the software version both of the touch screen and of the mother board.

C.4 CHECK CAPACITOR CHARGE: on the touch screen lighting up, check that the increase in
voltage up to the value of 320V is displayed. Complete charging of the capacitor bank
takes place in about 40 / 45 sec.
C.5 CHECK CAPACITOR DISCHARGE: switch the unit off and check the complete discharging of
the capacitors battery by means the switching off the LD3 led mounted on S25 board;
Do not carry out switching the unit On and Off. When turning the unit back on,
! make sure that a minimum time of 1 minute has passed since it was turned off.
C.6 SET-UP DATES IN MEMORY: enter on SET-UP (See Section 3 - § 3) and check that the SET-UP
dates are in according with dates selected (See Section 3 - TABLE 5, TABLE 6 and TABLE
7);
C.7 X-RAY TUBE FORMATION: when not in used the unit for a long time, before to use the unit
normally, carry out the “formation” of the X-ray tube with a serial of exposure using the
following dates (carry out for each value of kV and mAs 10 exposure and keep a pause of
1 minute between an exposure and another one):

During this formation check with oscilloscope the value of kV [S19 board Tp11 (-); Tp3
(+) ] and mA [S19 board: Tp11 (-); Tp6 (+) ] on inverter. Select the oscilloscope in the
following way:
CHANNEL A: 1 V/DIV ( 1V read is equal to 50 mA)
CHANNEL B: 1 V/DIV ( 1V read is equal to 20 KV)
BASE TIME: 25ms/DIV

In case kV wave form presents high voltage discharge or you hear discharge inside X-ray
tube interrupt the sequence, wait few minutes before starting again; repeat the initial
formation checking that the fuse F7 is not interrupted (100A) (See Electrical Draw);

The unit must not be used in the presence of anaesthetic and/or inflammable
disinfectant and cleaning products.
! If mixtures producing explosive gaseous products are used, make sure that gases
are dispersed before switching on the unit.

2 SPECIAL MAINTENANCE
In case of alarms, faults or replacement of both electronic/electric and mechanical components,
operations classified as Extraordinary Maintenance are required, only to be carried out by qualified
personnel authorised by the technical service.
In particular:

ATTENTION: from this moment, the arm can rotate freely so do not move the unit
because a sudden movement of the arm might occur, endangering people in the

vicinity
At this point the unit is completely accessible for any maintenance operations.
To remount the casings, repeat the procedure described above in reverse order, taking care to
couple the casings correctly in their relative seats and grooves.

4. Once a component has been replaced, checks and adjustments are necessary to restore
correct operation of the radiological unit. For this purpose, please see:
§ 2.1, for adjustments of the mechanical parts, and
TABLE 2 given below for the electrical adjustments. The table contains some references to
Section 3: “Electronic adjustments”. It is advisable to do the chapters the table refers to
exactly in the order they are written in.
5. Once the necessary checks and adjustments have been carried out, repeat the checks of the
acceptance Test relative to the replaced component (See. Section 1 - § 4).

1 INTRODUCTION
Following points are illustrated in this section:
The potentiometers with the description of the size they regulate, in § 2
Access to the set-up menu of the unit by means of the touch screen, § 3. How to access the
set-up menu and how to move around inside the menus is explained. Most of the electronic
adjustments of the unit do, in fact, require access to the configuration parameters by means
of the touch screen.
The various adjustment operations, in § 4. All the possible adjustments which can be carried
out by the technical assistance are explained in this chapter.
Before accessing § 4, consult the sections relative to the various service activities, to know which
regulations must be carried out:
In case of Alarms and electric faults, please consult Section 2, § 2.2
In case of Replacements of components and spare parts, please consult Section 2, § 2.3
In case of other technical assistance operations, please consult the following table:

2 POTENTIOMETERS
The potentiometers on the unit are indicated in TABLE 4, with the description of the size they
regulate. They do not normally require further adjustments, since they are already regulated and
sealed in the factory.

Carrying out this procedure initializes the unit, i.e. it eliminates any settings saved
on the apparatus.
! Furthermore, it could also eliminate all the data of all the exposures stored and all
personalisation made by the operator on the anatomical techniques.
Make sure that the unit is off (if it is on, turn it off)
Turn the unit on using the following procedure: press the ON button of the unit and at the
same time press the anatomical programme buttons (as shown below), until the unit emits
a short tone:
Adjust the touch screen contrast by means of P1 on S71 until the phrase “Touch screen
calibration” is clearly visible.
Calibrate the touch screen by selecting the centre of the 6 centring crosses which appear
on the screen, using an instrument with a rounded tip. Follow the instructions which
appear on the screen until calibration is completed correctly: the screen for entering the
password to access the configuration menu will be displayed on the touch screen.
Enter set-up using the password 4521. Move through the configuration menu as indicated
in § 3.4.
Set the type of date: “Type of date”, choosing between the option “DDMMYYYY”
(day/month/year), or “MMDDYYYY” (month/day/year)

Carrying out this procedure eliminates the changes to the anatomical programmes
! made by the radiological operators
Carrying out this procedure eliminates all the stored exposure data
!
Make sure that the unit is off (if it is on, turn it off)
Turn the unit on using the following procedure: press the ON button of the unit and at the
same time press the anatomical programme buttons (as shown below), until the unit emits
a short tone:
Calibrate the touch screen by selecting the centre of the 6 centring crosses which appear
on the screen, using an instrument with a rounded tip. Follow the instructions which

appear on the screen, until calibration is completed correctly: the screen for entering the
password to access the configuration menu will be displayed on the touch screen.

To move through the configuration menu, please consult § 3.4. In some cases, when the
unit is in an error situation, a few seconds are required to pass from one item of the menu
to another: wait for the current screen to be completely loaded before selecting the next
item.

Set the parameters indicated below, which correspond to the characteristics of the unit,
(contact the manufacturer’s technical assistance should there be any doubts about the
values to be entered). In case of replacement of U13 and BT1 (See. Section 2 - § 2.2),
only set parameters 12, 13 and 14.
1. Power supply: “Main supply” item
2. Power of the unit: “Device power”
3. Set: “Setup name”
4. Specify whether the application is for veterinary or human use: “Anatomical mode”
parameter
5. Type of X-ray tube installed: “30kW tube” item
6. Energy accumulated by the capacitor bank: “Type of capacitors” (Set it to 8700J)
7. Put in “Device name” commercial name of the device
8. Set 100% value in “Change % max current with old tube”
9. Presence of a printer: by using the “Printer” parameter
10. Presence of a dosimeter: by using the “DAP” parameter

11. If there is a dosimeter, set the calibration value of the dosimeter by means of
the “DAP calibration value” parameter (this value is given by the
manufacturer of the dosimeter)
12. Set the type of date: “Type of date” choosing between the option
“DDMMYYYY” (day/month/year), or “MMDDYYYY” (month/day/year)
13. Change/enter the date (“Change date” item)
14. Set/enter the time (“Change time” item)
15. Set the touch screen language (“Choose language” item)
16. Once you reach the “Download original anatomical programs” item, confirm
by pressing “Press to confirm”
17. Cancel all the patient/exposure data: select the “Delete patient data” item by
pressing “Press to confirm”. Elimination of all the records stored may take
some time
18. Turn the unit off by pressing the relative button.

Carry out an X-ray preparation (by only pressing the X-ray control pushbutton up to the
first click), and check that once 0.8 seconds have passed the stator is supplied with a
voltage of about 70 VAC. If necessary, adjust this value by working on potentiometer P1 of
card S20.

4.5 KV REGULATION
Turn the unit on by pressing the relative On button
Enter set-up by using password 7854.
Scroll the configuration menu as indicated in § 3.4.
Check that the values of the parameters indicated below are correct (contact
the manufacturer’s technical assistance to obtain the reference values):
1. “Touch screen firmware revision” (version of the Touch Screen
firmware)
2. “Motherboard revision” (version of the motherboard firmware)
Scroll the menu down to the “Set-up 40kV” parameter.
Connect the probe of a digital VDC multimeter between CP1-10(+) and
TP11(-) on card S19
Vary the value displayed on the touch screen for the “Set-up 40kV” 2,00 V
voltage of 2 V. Store the value displayed on the touch screen by means of CP1-10 TP11
“Press to confirm”.

Take great care during the following operations, because the voltage at the ends of
! the capacitor bank is highly dangerous.
Keep at a safe distance from the unit when its casing is dismantled and the capacitor
! bank is in the charging stage.
Put the mains switch SW1 on OFF (See. Section 4 - § Exploded electric
diagrams)
Connect the VDC multimeter with 700 V full scale to the ends of the capacitor
bank
Insert the current pliers on the unit power supply cable (230 VAC / 115 VAC)
Make sure that fuses F2 and F3 are inserted in the power supply circuit (See.
Section 4 - § Exploded electric diagrams)
Make sure that connector X9 is inserted on S22
Put the mains switch SW1 on ON (See. Section 4 - § Exploded electric
diagrams)
Turn the unit on by pressing the relative On button
Check:
that the absorption indicated on the current pliers increases sharply when the
machine is turned on and that it then decreases (initial peak < 22 AAC)
that the voltage value displayed on the multimeter, (which indicates the
battery charge), gradually increases until it reaches a voltage of 320 V

NOTE: If there is any behaviour which does not correspond to what is mentioned above,
disarm switch SW1 and contact the manufacturer’s technical assistance.
Test correct operation of the “SW1” battery charging circuit switch on card S25:
activate it and check that the voltage decreases to below 10 VDC
Turn the unit off by pressing the relative button
Disconnect the multimeter and the current pliers.
Take great care during the following operations, because the voltage at the ends of
! the capacitor bank is highly dangerous.
Keep at a safe distance from the unit when its casing is dismantled and the
! capacitor bank is in the charging stage.
Connect the VDC multimeter with 700 V full scale to the ends of the capacitor
bank
Turn the unit on by pressing the relative On button
Enter Set-up with password 7854 and scroll the menu down to the
“Set-up analog capacitor battery” parameter.
Vary the value displayed on the touch screen until it is the same as the one read
on the tester. If you “Press to confirm”, it will be stored.
Exit set-up
Test correct operation of the “SW1” battery charging switch on card S25:
activate it and check that the voltage decreases to below 10 VDC
Turn the unit off by pressing the relative button
Disconnect the multimeter.

This procedure foresees a series of X-rays: apply all the X-ray protections foreseen by
the regulations in force.
Carry out all the exposures by immediately pressing the X-ray emission pushbutton
! completely, without stopping at the first click. Non-observance of this warning may
seriously jeopardise self-calibration.

Section 3
Actual duration of the X-rays, (displayed on the oscilloscope, or for the first 2 seconds on
the touch screen), will vary from 30% to 120% in relation to the time set.
Should there be any problems (even simply a discharge) during the X-rays,
interrupt the set-up in progress by turning the unit off. Then turn it on
!
again, re-enter set-up and start the pre-calibration procedure again.
Once the 10 set X-rays have been carried out, the system will have learnt the
characteristic of the tube and will store the parameters and will then automatically re-start
the unit.
Carry out the exposures indicated in TABLE 9 and, for each of them, check:
the effective kV: the margin in relation to the set kV is ±5%
the effective mA: the margin is ±20%
that the mAs vary a maximum of ±10% in relation to the value calculated (indicated in
the table)

Should even one point be found to be out of tolerance during the X-rays, interrupt the
exposures and repeat calibration of the tube, as described in § 4.14. Then start § 4.16 again
from the beginning.

1 THERMOMAGNETIC CIRCUIT-BREAKER
The 115V power supply circuit (SEE FIGURE 1) is protected by a thermomagnetic circuit-breaker
(1); should this circuit-breaker trip, disassembly all the unit casings, as explained in the SERVICE
MANUAL – MAINTENANCE SECTION, and reset the circuit-breaker.
2 COMPONENTS REPLACEMENT
For the 115V power supply assembly dismantling and relative list of spare parts make reference to
the EXPLODED DRAWINGS.
NOTE: When you require spare part, it is necessary to tell the code of the piece and the serial
number of the unit too.
