OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this assignment is to understand the source of
stress and its symptoms among college students.

For this purpose, a series of tools were administered via which college
students were able to express the stress related incidents which they
had to face every day or according to the intensity of work they had to
do every day.

This study provides us a useful insight for future research.

Introduction

Stress is a part of life which every one of us encounters and deals with
no matter who we are. We cannot avoid stress but we can learn how to
combat with this never ending problem, how to manage stress with
ease. Stress can be of any type for example going to college, financial
problem ,exam stress and so on. One misconception about stress is that
people always think stress as harmful but stress can be really helpful
at times. Some students study the whole year but some only study at
the exam time under the tension a.k.a. the exam stress which kind of
acts as an adrenaline rush to help them outperform their “under no
stress” self.

Stress is the way people react physically, mentally and also emotionally
to change events and situations in their lives. People experience stress
in different ways and for a very vast range of reasons. The reaction is
wholly based on the one’s perception of an event. A negative perception
of an event will eventually led to “Distress” which can further led to
oppressed, aggressive feelings. Distress is more familiar form of
stress. The other , not so popular, form is “Eustress” is which more of
a positive perception of an event and so is also called as “Good Stress”.
Causes of stress among college
students

One group that is most likely to be the victim of stress is college

students. They go through a lot of stressors. Some are as follows:-

• Unhealthy competition
Everyone appreciate and want a healthy competition but it’s
very rare these days. Students crosses any boundary to be
on the top, to get a good CGPA which ultimately results in
more pressure and stress.
• Attendance
Maintaining a decent attendance is necessary but is also a
big stressor of students. This stressor is manifolds when
the student has to travel a lot to reach college. Traveling
also causes stress to students.
• Maintaining a social status
What a student can do when all the expensive things are the
trends. Want of getting the hands off these things is a
stressor for students. Not only for them but it can also be a
stressor for their parents.
• Homesickness
For a hosteller in college it is very common to feel homesick
and miss the food mostly as mess food is nowhere compared
to the mom’s food which is full of love.
Coping strategies

We are now excepting the fact that we are under a lot of stress, now
how to deal with it. Here are some stress-buster that could be helpful

• Getting proper 8-10 hour sleep

• Eating healthy and balance diet
• Exercising or yoga/meditation
• Listening to music or doing something of your choice
• Avoiding unethical stress-busters like marijuana, alcohol, etc.

REFLECTION
During this session I learned a lot about the stresses every person in
the society is having and most importantly I learned about myself and
if I have a stress I am more stronger than it an I could use it as a
eustress rather than distress.

I personally understand stress as a concept made up by humans in the

brain. What is a stress for me needed not to be a stress for someone
else. We, humans made this up so as to increase efficiency or as a false
alarm to get things done. But things get pretty bad when we are
delusion by this term called stress and go into depression.

Stress is like water coming from a river you can’t stop the flow but can
certainly use it into productive things. But coming to major stress that
cause depression, anxiety and a lot more traumatic things. These
stress are majorly from society and include caste system,
discrimination, etc.

So I would like to conclude my assignment by saying that stress is not

just a personal phenomenon it’s a blend of personal and societal so we
should try to help others in their personal stress and try not to
increase their societal stress by any actions of ours.
