Framework of Sustainable Development

Location: Estrada St., Malate (Brgy.730)

Environment

Barangay 730 is only a small area of Malate Manila as a whole. It is near the main road of Taft
Avenue and just beside the passage leading to Makati therefore traffic never wanes around the place.
Noise and air pollution is prevalent due to the vehicles that goes in and out. Greenery is non-existent
with the exception of a couple of trees on corners of the streets and there are no parks.

Low-rise buildings such as school-operated dormitories, hotels, and universities dominates the
area and institutions that specifically caters to student’s needs. Some of these are study hubs, fast food
chains, convenience stores, and banks. It may not be the best environment for all types of individual, but
it is every students haven.

Society

The composition of the individuals living in Barangay 730 is quite simple but diverse. The
average age range of its occupants are from 20s to mid-30s which is quite young. Majority of the
population are Filipinos, but the numbers of Orientals and Arabs are also increasing within these 5 years.
Unfortunately, street sleepers and beggars are a common sight in the barangay.

Therefore, it can be inferred that most of the people in the society are living comfortably,
meeting their daily needs. At the same time, there are a few who are having a hard time getting by
without a proper shelter and meal.
This society will be a comfortable place where you could socialize with people you have similar interests
and disposition in life. While there is a small population of people not meeting their needs, there is no
evident discrimination towards them comparing to other societies who shuns people who are less
privileged. It is an education-centered and a fast-moving society where most people work hard, at the
same time enjoy fulfilling their goals within a few years span of time.

Economy

The economy in Barangay 730 is not exceptionally wealthy and booming as it is not a business
district, but it is also not terrible. It is constantly above average which makes it livable for all people no
matter of their position and status.

The prices of basic living needs such as food, lodging, and transportation is not so expensive at
most times which is within the resident’s monthly allowance. Food establishments are always crowded
with people so as the universities. This tells that the population can cater to their needs such as their
educational expenses. Workers are busy from day to night but are receiving adequate wages, which
varies from person to person.

Sustainable Development

It can be inferred based from the observations that Barangay 730 has a degree of sustainable
development. The society and economy of the area has no critical problem that hinders its development
to make it equitable to its residents. Its environment has been greatly urbanized to meet the needs of
the young generation which is not exactly a bad transformation, at least for its current residents.
