Coming into this class at the beginning of the semester I felt that I had at least a basic

understanding and knowledge of computers. Now that we are nearing the end of the semester I

am finding that I have learned a lot more and I now have more confidence in my ability to

navigate and use computers more effectively in general. The three areas I feel that I have

improved in the most are my abilities to understand and execute fundamental programming

concepts using Block Programming, my ability to use various software applications, and my

ability to understand and analyze social and ethical problems related to the use of Technology in

Business, Education, and society.

What seemed to me to be the one of the most difficult tasks to learn and accomplish in

this class was the Block Programming. Before actually getting into the work and learning about

programming I assumed that it would be so much more complicated and harder to get my mind

around. The fact that the Coding actually turned out to be simple and the information was easily

digestible instead of actually having to write lines of Code and start from scratch to create

something like a website or app was a surprise and a relief. Programming in general was

intimidating for me to get into but now after using the block Programming method and actually

creating simple games I feel like I have a solid foundation of Programming knowledge. I think

that if I were to try to program a game from scratch and type the code I feel that I would be much

better off now and learn quickly after using the Block Programming.

On the other hand I probably felt the most comfortable with my ability to use software

applications like email, spreadsheets, Google Docs, and web searching strategies. The Canvas

Course Management System was a little tricky for me to get used to using this in depth, as before

this semester I had never taken online classes full time like I am now. Taking a computer class

online I think forced me to get used to the Canvas and helped me build my computer navigation

skills. My skills and strategies for searching the Internet for information have also gotten better

since starting this class. Instead of just copying and pasting into google I have learned to actually

single out the certain key words and phrases within a sentence to search more effectively.

Another thing I feel that I maybe have struggled with in the past but have learned and improved

on now is my ability to determine which search results are credible and worth using as a

reference not only for this class but for writing assignments in my other classes.

The most interesting thing to me however is the social and ethical problems of the use of

Technology in Business, Education, and society. As a society new technology in general has had

a huge affect and shaped the way our world operates. The creation of social media in the very

recent past especially has introduced all sorts of new social etiquitte rules to follow. On top of

social media in general we also now have smart phones, which the majority of people are owners

of one. In such a short amount of time we went from the creation of cell phones to the creation of

smart phones with the entire Internet at our disposal wherever we go. Technology is making

massive improvements and changes very quickly so it is interesting to me to see how the world

will adapt in the fields of Business, Education, and just communicating with others in general.
