Topic: Since technology now gives large group of students the opportunity to play active
roles in the classroom, professors should no longer deliver lectures during class time

With the growth of technology and new innovations coming up the student are getting more opportunity
to take active roles up during their classroom sessions but questions about such scenarios arise that what
should a professor do in such a situation should they no longer deliver lectures. But we believe otherwise
that a professor should rather deliver a lecture but by using these technologies as an enabler in making
that lecture more impactful and engaging.

Let’s dive down the memory lane to when we or our parents used to study. All we used to have was a
professor using the blackboard to project his/her idea and using voice as the only instruments to convey
knowledge in the class, which would restrict the professor to use audio-visuals or any other resource
which could be used for better understanding. For example when in biology we were taught about the
brain the professor would ask us to bring textbooks to the class and then she would use her book to point
at different parts and we wouldn’t be sure as to where she would be pointing and get confused whereas
if we jump into the current situation the professor can instead use a projector to show a 3D model of the
brain and move it around to show different parts while she imparts. Isn’t it better for both parties
convenient for the professor to explain and easier for the students to grasp what is being told, while not
missing out the impact visual study has on retainment of the knowledge imparted.

With the technological innovations different methods could be adopted to pave a better path. But if a
professor weren’t to deliver lecture and just use the technology to let the students take the active role.
They might end up deviating from the main objective of the learning hence a professor should pave a path
through the lectures being delivered while using these technologies as an add-on. But this is not to ignore
their could be classes held just for the active work to be done by the student but even in this case the
following class should be used by the professor to give a summary and key take-aways that should be
noted from it. It could also be used as an amplifier so that the professor doesn’t have to scream and could
use speakers in class and student sitting across the class won’t have to bother about inaudible voice
hindering their learnings.

These things have would only have a positive effect on the whole scenario if properly incorporated in the
teaching structure by a professor, while a professor could build his teaching methodologies around the
incoming technology and innovation that would aid him. It’s also an imperative thing that the professors
keep themselves updated with the innovations that could assist them as soon these things could be seen
in the classrooms and last thing we would want it being used all wrong, which deviates from the whole
learning experience.
