NARRATIVE REPORT

12th of January 2019, we, 10 Financial Management students with our adviser, arrived at
Manila at around 1 a.m for the National Finance Summit at 7 a.m on the same day. We stayed in
a subdivision in Antipolo and slept for at least 2 hours before we all prepared for the seminar. We
had a breakfast in the house where we stayed and we left there 6 a.m. After almost an hour, we
arrived at SMX Convention Center in Pasay, Manila where the National Finance Summit has took
its place. We fell in line outside along with the other Finance students from other schools and
after we got our ticket to enter the convention center, we finally got to see what the Junior
Confederation of Finance Associations- Philippines (JCFAP) organizers had prepared for all of us.
We’ve seen students inside in formal attires like what we have worn on that day. Everyone in that
large room looks smart and classy especially the speakers. The volunteer usherettes guided us
where to claim our seminar kits that was in an eco-bag with a pen, paper and I.D card in it. After
we had those, we went straight to our seats and waited for the room to be full. The seminar
started at around 8 a.m to make sure that all registered schools are there already. The seminar
started by the roll call of the schools that are present there by the hosts of the seminar. After
that, the former JCFAP President and now one of the JCFAP advisers, Ms. Stephanie Villacecio,
introduced the one to officially open the seminar with a theme, “National Preparedness Mindset”.
The opening remarks had been delivered by the JCFAP Founder himself, Mr. Antonilo Mauricio,
welcoming everyone who attended especially schools that came from far places but still managed
to be there. He also gave us knowledge about Financial Inclusion which where he said that it
starts when someone opens bank account and then avails insurance after. He was such a smart

person, one we can look up to. Then it was followed by mini quiz bee game where the hosts
picked 10 random students to play and only there was only on winner after he answered correctly
the number of registered schools in JCFAP this school year. After that, the first speaker was
introduced. Mr. Alexander Gilles, CFA. His topic was “Higher Capacity for Production: Prepares
the Economy to Grow” which was an eye-opening speech for us. He also told us the Top Countries
that have good paying companies that are finance related where we may want to apply after
graduation and that includes China, Japan, Malaysia, U.S.A, Indonesia and five more. After him,
Mr. Anthony Abad, the second speaker proceeded. His topic was all about “Trade Wars and
International Trade Law” that taught us that trade wars can be really complicated because it’s a
side effect of extreme protectionism in which states raise or create tarrifs or other trade barriers
against each other in response to trade barriers created by the other party. The third speaker
was Atty. Johaness Benjamin Bernabe that also tackled about trade wars. While he was speaking,
the lunch was served. It was from Shakeys. And the seminar continued until it was the fourth
speaker, Mr. Joel Santos, the Managing Director of Thames International- Entrepreneurs School
of Asia that offered us a scholarship for 3 months and gave those who are willing to enroll a big
discount. There were raffles in between the speakers that was given by the sponsors and partners
of JCFAP. And then there goes the Founder and President of TagCash Ltd., Mr Mark Vernon that
talked about Financial Technology. And the last but not the least speaker, Mr. Emerson Fonseca,
the Country Head of NEM Philippines discussed about crypto-currencies especially bitcoins and all
about Data Innovations. To top it all off, all the speakers contributed a lot to our knowledge as
finance students and they became somewhat our inspirations for us to study harder. After all the
speaker had spoken, they have awarded and recognized the Top 15 Outstanding Students of
Finance down to Top 10 as well as the winner of the debate and research conducted before the
day of the seminar. And then after they have been awarded, the hosts told us that one
representative of the school who participated must go on the stage in behalf of the whole school
to be given a simple plaque of appreciation. After it was all over, finally we got to have out
certificates and exited the convention with a smile on our faces because the event was a success
and we learned a lot.

SEMINAR: THEME : “THE VALUE OF SAVING”

Last October 1, 2018, JFINEX sponsored the seminar conducted by the Bank of Philippine Islands with
the Theme:”The Value of Saving”, held at SGO-AVR attended by all Junior High School students in the University
namely: Bluebird, Canary, Brant, Hummingbird, Flamingo, Eagle, Maya, Falcon, Albatross, Bellbird, Yttrium,
Cardinal, Kingfisher, Dove, and Night Class sections with the JHS faculties and with the JHS Principal. Our
adviser, Ms. Mary Rose Figueroa, MBA, opened the program through her Opening Remarks who also guided us
to sponsor the said activity. The Guest Speaker who discussed the said theme is Mr. Allan Paul Operario. He
pointed out the reasons why students should save money, if you wanted to have something to pull on like
emergency fund first thing you should do is to establish savings, saving can give you freedom – “it has nothing
to do with the money and everything to do with yourself flexibility and choice in your life”. When you have
money in the bank that is available you can do what you want without stress. Saving provides financial security.
Saving means you can take calculated risks for example, by starting a business.

After the seminar, the students who attended fill-out their personal information in their Savings Form
who wanted to have a bank account in BPI to have their savings. JFINEX Officers facilitated and guided the
students who fill-out, almost 30% of the students were interested to have a Savings Account with a maintaining
balance of Php 100.00 in their account. The whole seminar was successfully held.

PILI TREE PLANTING (COMMUNITY EXTENSION SERVICES)

Tree planting as one of many ways to extend community services especially provides the
source of their income and enjoy the fruit for their own consumption. Trees help clean the air we
breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial
biodiversity. It also absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in
twenty-five percent of all medicine. It is vital element to the air because it vacuums the dirt that
might be inhaled by the people through absorbing the harmful pollutants and releases oxygen.
Trees play a key role in capturing rainwater and reducing the risk of natural disasters like floods
and landslides. Their intricate root systems act like filters; removing pollutants and slowing down

the water’s absorption into the ground. It can also consumed by the people around after bearing
fruits.
The Junior Financial Executives conducted a community extension service by
means of Tree Planting of Pili seedlings at Sto. Niño, Iriga City on the 9th day of December 2018
that aims to provide seedlings to community recipients which will be the source of raw materials
for the production of Pili spread as additional means of livelihood. Since nowadays, lowland areas
in Iriga is prone to flooding it can serve as the one to hold the firmness of the soil, preventing it
from soil erosion and also can serve as windbreaks and buffer zones for dust and traffic noise. It
is participated by seven JFINEX officers and our adviser facilitated by the officiating Barangay
Kagawad and other Barangay Officials, planted 40 Pili seedlings in the land area. Being monitored
January 19, February 23, and March 16, respectively by the CES Coordinator and JFINEX Officers.
During the first monitoring, the Pili are already sprouting fast and growing healthy. The second
monitoring grows at least 3 ft. higher. It is an honor to conduct the said activity because it helps
to renew the loosening of the trees and at the same the people in the community can help in
cultivating the trees for their benefit in the long-run time.
