LOCAL RESOURCES SAFETY TIPS
1. Use layers of protection. This means
door alarms, locks, pool fences, self
latching gates that swing away from

rid of the pet doors!

of security for the child and parent. Ask
yourself, "If my child were to fall in the

3. Supervision is key, and so is being
hands on in the water. Put down the

the water first. Know where the water
is! If you don't have a pool, what about
your neighbor? Retention ponds?
Bathtubs, toilets, buckets?
Learn CPR 5. Survival swim lessons can save lives!
American Heart Association Don't wait to start. Some lessons begin
as young as 6 months.

6. Learn CPR. If a drowning accident does
occur, this can help save a life.
American Red Cross 7. Even with a pool full of adults, children

around water, designate a water
watcher. Don't assume that someone

doesn't look like you think it does.
8. Always use a Coast Guard Approved

CJ's MOM
On January 19, 2019 I became a part of a club that
no one wants to be a part of... The club of grieving
mothers.
Why make this and put this information out there??
Because I DON'T WANT YOU IN THIS CLUB!
Bringing awareness and information on water safety
and drowning prevention is my best attempt to make
something good come from something so tragic. It is
a way to allow my son to continue to live.
After countless hours of sleepless nights and
researching water safety, I quickly realized how much
information was not publicly known to most parents.
So, despite having the fear that I will be judged or not
listened to, I am making it my mission to spread this
information and hopefully save other families from
experiencing this heartache that my family is now
living with.
I just hope that you will listen. I am sure that you
don't think that this could possibly happen to you,
especially when you are a loving and attentive parent.
THAT'S THE PROBLEM, it can, and it does.
Just like preventing injuries and death in car
accidents, sports accidents, crossing the street, and
the hundreds of other things we do to prevent bad
things from happening to our kids, WATER SAFETY is
something we all need to be talking more about. We
need to realize that drowning accidents are
happening all the time and they are happening to
GOOD parents and families. Drowning does not
discriminate. We need to be thinking about water
safety and drowning prevention even when we aren't
swimming or planning on being in the water.
