General Instructions:
1. The questions paper comprises of two Section A and B. You are to attempt both the
sections.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. All questions of Section A and all questions of Section B are to be attempted separately.
4. Question numbers 1 to 3 in Section A are one marks questions. These are to be answered
in one word or in one sentence.
5. Question numbers 4 to 6 in Section A are two marks questions. These are to be answered
in about 30 words each.
6. Question numbers 7 to 18 in Section A are three marks questions. These are to be
answered in about 50 words each.
7. Question numbers 19 to 24 in Section A are five marks questions. These are to be
answered in about 70 words each.
8. Question numbers 25 to 33 in Section B are multiple choice questions based on practical
skills. Each question is a one mark questions. You are to select one most appropriate
response out of the four provided to you.
9. Question numbers 34 to 36 in Section B are questions based on practical skills Each
question is of two marks.
SECTION A
1. Define photosynthesis.
2. State the type of combination used for connecting different electric appliances in
domestic circuit.
4. A milk man adds very small amount of baking soda in fresh milk.
(a) Why does he shift the pH of fresh milk from 6 to slight alkaline?
(b) Why does this milk take a long time to set as curd?
5. Select a metal out of the following which reacts with hot water but not with cold water
Iron, sodium, magnesium.
Write the chemical equation of the reaction and name the main product formed during
the reaction.
7. (a) What are the bases which are soluble in water called?
(c) What happens when water is added to quick lime. Write chemical equation.
10. State the chemical property in each case on which the following uses of baking soda are
based:
(i) as an antacid
(ii) as a constituent of baking powder.
(iii) applied on a honey bee stung area
(a) State the stimulus which is common for movement in both the cases.
(b) Mentions separately for both, whether the movement takes place away or at the point
of contact where stimulus is received.
(c) State one reason for the movement in each case.
12. Explain any three methods used by plants to get rid of excretory products.
14. 400 Joules of heat is produced per second in a 16 c resistor. Find the potential difference
across the resistor.
16. State Ohm’s law. Draw a circuit diagram to verify this law indicating the positive and
negative terminals of the battery and the meters. Also show the direction of current in the
circuit.
17. Burning of fossil fuels cause lots of a air pollution. Generally these fossil fuels are used in
our vehicles.
(i) As an aware citizen, list two ways to reduce air pollution caused due to vehicles.
(ii) Write two harmful effect other than air pollution, that are caused due to burning of
fossil fuels.
18. Name two components of a solar cooker that are used to increase its heating efficiency.
Also explain how they do so?
22. Two similar resistances are connected (i) in series and (ii) in parallel, in two different
circuit, one by one. If same current is passed through both the combinations in which
case more heat will be produced? Give suitable reason for your answer.
24. Draw a labelled circuit diagram showing three resistors R1, R2 and R3 connected in a
parallel arrangement and this arrangement connected in series with a battery (E), a
rheostat (Rh), a plug key (K) and an ammeter (A). Use this circuit and show with the help
of a voltmeter that the same potential difference exists across each resistor of the parallel
arrangement. List two precautions you would observe while performing the experiment.
SECTION B
25. While performing an experiment to determine the pH of the sample solutions given to a
student. He /She adopted the following steps of procedure to get the correct result:
(i) cut small peace of pH paper and placed them on glazed tiles.
(ii) Mark the test tubes containing sample solutions as A, B, C and D.
(iii) Observe the colour produced and match it with the coloured chart.
(iv) Put one drop of each sample on the pH paper with the help of dropper.
26. Given below are diagrams of three test tubes containing dil. HCI, dil. Ethanoic acid and
NaOH solution.
27. Four students A, B, C and D studied the reactions of zinc and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3)
with dil HCI and dil NaOH solutions and presented their results as follows (The sign √
represented evolutions of gas and × absence of any reactions)
30. In the experiment on finding the equivalent resistance of two resistor, connected in
series, the voltmeter is correctly connected only in circuit:
31. Four statement measured the following reading by observing the position of pointer in
voltmeter. The correct reading is:
(a) 2.2 V
(b) 2.4 V
(c) 4.2 V
(d) 4.4 V
34. While performing an experiment to study the effect of adding water to quick lime, what
does observations would you make?
35. What is done when the pointer of ammeters and voltmeter do not coincide with the zero
mark on their scales even when the circuit is open?
36. Name the observed parts of a temporary mount of a leaf peel when it is focused under:
(a) low power and
(b) high power of a compound microscope.
