MY CAREER PLAN

Specific: is what exactly I want to achieve as I want to be a barrister in being specific it will
clarify the difference in me saying “I want to become a barrister” and me saying “I want to
earn £50,000 a year for the next 5 years by giving legal expert advice.

Measurable: will be identifying exactly what I will see, feel, and hear when I reach my goal.
As this can be displaying the physical aspects of my goal which makes it easier and clear to
reach. An example would be I will try to apply for a barrister’s job in different cities such as
Bradford,Leeds,Huddersfield.

Achievable: can your goal be achieved as setting goals that you know can be achieved will
keep me focused and motivated. As using the above example of becoming a barrister is I
should be aware of the credentials, experience, and skills required to be a barrister.

Realistic: this is when I should consider setting goals for myself whether it is realistic or not.
As each one of my goals should be valued and not underestimated as it can be used in
future. Asking myself if I achieve this will it benefit me in the future.

Timely: as an end date can help provide motivation and it will help me prioritise. As for
example if I want to be a barrister after I finish my fourth and last year at university and I
graduate within 6 months I hope to become a barrister.

My specific target is SMART because in quotes I am actually being very specific in what job
role I want which is a barrister instead of just saying that I want a job and how much in terms
of salary I specifically want to achieve and in relation to how long I want be giving legal
advice.
Also what it makes it so is that a lot of information is actually given in a couple of sentences
those who will read this will acknowledge the career I want to pursue.

My measurable target is SMART because in order to achieve my target I am aware that it is

a step by step process as I just can't magically just be a barrister there is a process in being
one which will start with skills and qualifications. And in terms of what makes it so before
becoming a barrister I am aware I will need a Law degree so I will need to get into university
so I will be measuring the different universities that are good for the university.

My achievable target is SMART because I am from a personal point of view know that I will
need to be focused. And what makes it so is if I know that I want to become a barrister there
will be a lot of qualifications, and voluntary work placements I can achieve before I can
actually achieve the dream job.

My realistic target is SMART because I know that it is in my own hands if I put the time and
effort in I will get what I deserve. And what makes it so is that the goal in becoming a
barrister is achievable if I put my mind to it but it is not impossible there will be obstacles on
the way but it is about how to deal with it.

My timely target is SMART because in becoming a barrister it is not like I have my entire life
to achieve this I hope to become a barrister after finishing the last year at university. And
what makes it so is there is a proposed deadline in my mind in which I expect to actually
become a barrister if everything step by step goes well.
