ADVERBS CLAUSES

Part 1: Dependent or Independent Clause?

Each of these sentences has two clauses: an independent clause and a dependent clause. In each sentence, the
dependent clause is an adverb clause. Underline each independent clause, and circle each dependent clause. *If you
don’t remember all the subordinating conjunctions, there is a list at the end of the video lesson.

1. Although male bird species may boast brilliant colors, female bird species tend to have feathers of neutral hues.

2. I am going to work hard this week so that I don’t have to work this weekend.

Part 2: Underline the subordinating conjunction in each sentence.

1. Holly wants to return her new purse to the store since the zipper broke.

Part 3: Complete or incomplete sentence? Write “C” if the sentence is complete and can stand alone. Write “I” if
the sentence is incomplete and cannot stand alone.

2. Now that we have new light fixtures in our house, the whole place feels more illuminated and modern.
