Thanks to our grace and guidance we can complete a paper on "SIMPLE


PAST TENSE". In this case we are still learning to apologize if there is any
shortage or mistake in making this paper.
This paper contains an in-depth explanation of "SIMPLE PAST
TENSE" Which alhamdulilah we have finished with our capabilities that are
more easily understood by the reader. We hope this paper can provide
information on "SIMPLE PAST TENSE" .This paper has been made to fulfill
the task of English course 1.
we realize that this paper is still far from perfect, therefore the criticism
and suggestions of all constructive parties are always expected for the
perfection of this paper. Finally, we would like to thank all those who have

PRELIMINARY

A. Background
English is the international language. By mastering English well,
then we will be able to communicate with other nations in this world. In
addition, we will also be able to increase our insight and knowledge for the
betterment of our nation and country, for we will be able to read English
literature, listen to foreign radio broadcasts, and to install other science
films. Thus, ultimately we can master the knowledge in all fields.

B. Problem Formulation
1. What is Simple Past Tense?
2. What are the formulas and examples of Simple Past Tense in
everyday life?
3. What is the function of Simple Past Tense?

C. Purpose
From the identification of the above problem, the writer of course
aims to explain or explain these points, in accordance with the knowledge
we get, both from the source book and from our teachers. Hopefully it will
benefit us. If any errors or words are written in this paper, please apologize
profusely.

DISCUSSION

A. Understanding Simple Past Tense


Simple past tense is a type of tenses used to describe events that
have occurred at a certain time in the past. In simple past tense, the time of
the incident (yesterday, last two days, last year) or the time period (for two
months, for a day, for on hour) can be specified.

B. Simple Past Tense Formulas and Examples

1) Positive Past Tense Sentences (+)
a. You paid the government taxes last years
b. We drew the new painting about rich people.
c. Juleha went to Romini's new house.
2) Sentence Simple Past Negative (-)
a. You did not pay the government taxes last year.
b. We did not draw the painting about rich people.
c. Juleha did not go to Romini's new house.
3) The Simple Past Tense Interrogative Sentence (?)
a. Did you pay the government taxes last year?
b. Did we draw the new painting about rich people?
c. Did Juleha go to Romini's new house?

C. Simple Past Tense Function


1) State activities / activities that have occurred in the past. Usually the
offender in the sentence does not say when the activity ends.
Example:
- I saw a movie yesterday.
- Did you have your dinner last night?
- He did not wash his car.
2) Stating some activities that have occurred in the past. Usually the
number of activities more than one.
Example:
- I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim
- He arrived from the airport at 08.00 Am, checked into the hotel at
09.00 Am, and met others at 10.00 Am
- Did you add flour, pour in the milk, and then eggs?
3) Declare the timeframe of activities that have occurred in the past. The
length of time described is usually long. It could be two years.
Example:
- I lived in Brazil for two years
- Shauna studied Japanese for five years.
4) Declare habits that occur and have stopped in the past. This form is the
same as "Used to". Usually we add time information like always,
often, usually.
Example:
- I studied Japanese language when I was child.
- She worked at the movie theater, when she was in junior high school.
5) State the general truth that has happened in the past that has not
happened again.
Example:
- She was shy as a child, but now she is easy going /
- He did not like tomatoes before.

Simple Past Tense is a simple past tense that is a type of tenses
used to describe events that have occurred at a certain time in the past.
Simple Past Tense is used to declare activities / activities that have
occurred in the past and do not say when the activity ended, stating some
activities that occurred in the past that the number of activities more than
one, stating the period of activities that have occurred in the past, and
reveals the general truth that has happened in the past that has not
happened again.

B. Suggestions
Discussion about Simple Past Tense not only limited to this paper
alone, because we can dig more about Simple Past Tense. The goal for us
as the successor of the Indonesian nation can.
