A note from Brian Gerry, ATEP Program Director

Here in the Augustana Athletic Training Education Program, we are welcoming 18 freshmen who have declared Athletic Train-
ing as their major. It‟s our biggest freshmen class ever! The program continues to grow and strive towards educating quality
Athletic Trainers. We have a wonderful group of students, and wish our current seniors the best of luck as they prepare for the
BOC certification exam this spring! The ATEP maintains it‟s accredidation status with CAATE, and we are proud to say we will
keep this status through the 2017-2018 school year, at which time, we‟ll go through the self study and site visit process again.

I would like to encourage all alumni to become actively involved in the Augustana Athletic Training Alumni Association. Our
current students need the networking, advice, and financial support that you can provide. There are many conferences and edu-
cational opportunities that our students would like to take part in, but need the financial means to do so. As alumni, you have a
responsibility to give back and help future Athletic Trainers from your undergraduate institution. Please get involved!

I sincerely hope that 2010 has been a wonderful year for all of you, and wish you all the best in 2011! Keep in touch!

A note from Laura Kunkel, AATAA President

Hello members of the AATAA! I hope this newsletter finds you healthy, happy, and
enjoying life as the holidays approach. First, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to
Emily, our secretary, for putting together this letter. This fall has been unbelievably busy for
me as I adjust to being a first-semester doctoral student and continue to work full time in addi-
tion to contract athletic training work. Emily has been gracious enough to get alumni updates
and put this together, and I can‟t thank her enough.
I hope all of you have had a great fall and those of you working in traditional athletic
training settings saw your teams excel in their fall seasons. It‟s hard to believe we are almost
to Christmas and the New Year! Before we know it, it will be summer again and we‟ll be
welcoming yet another class into the AATAA. This year‟s senior class at Augustana consists of
two girls: Kelsey Hourscht is currently applying to continue her education in physician assis-
tant studies, while Elizebeth Wegleitner is hoping to gain more experience with an athletic
training internship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. If she
isn‟t able to go to Florida, Elizebeth is planning to attend Lake Area Technical Institute in
Watertown, SD for an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in physical therapy assistant stud-
ies. I look forward to welcoming Kelsey and Elizebeth into the AATAA and watching them
