THE IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH
Research is an activity to heedfully dissect problems or questions, collect
data to answer, and present the answer to the questions by utilizing scientific
methods. Creswell (2001:3) defines research as “a process of steps used to collect
and analyze information to increase our understanding of a topic or issue”. There is
no limitation in selecting the topic for research. In other words, education,
technology, medical, or any else topics are possible to be undertaken for the topics.
This summary highlights three reasons why research is important.
First of all, doing research will enrich our knowledge by obtaining detailed
information about a certain topic or issue. Research endeavors us to gain a deeper
understanding of the problems or a new finding from assembling valid data to
answer the questions. Besides, the term enriching knowledge can be also as
additional results to accredit the prior studies or new information about one topic
that has not been previously studied.
Research leads to the improvement of the researcher and the reader. To the
researcher, conducting research is not only to contribute to a new finding but also
improves the ability to analyze the problems, solve the problem systematically,
present the results scientifically to carry on the better forthcoming research. On the
other hand, the readers need to know how to read research studies, to discover the
results of investigations, and to apply the findings to their particular situations.
Besides those two previous reasons, research also delivers information to
policymakers when they discuss and debate certain topics to generate a new policy.
Research proffers the results that assist them to gain various viewpoints. Moreover,
the policy made comes up from the unarguable decision. To sum up, research is
regarded as applicable to findings if it possesses clear results, encapsulates in a
concise style, and contains data-based evidence.
