Child/Tama Hini: Fareeha. Teacher/ Kaiako: Naema. Date: July/Hōngongoi, 2019.

Assalamu-Alaykum Fareeha, your attendance this moth was not that regular as your mum
was helping your uncle, Brother Fareed’s family. You were mostly with your cousin Shifa
who lost her mother, your aunty Hussna. Your mum told me how you have been very quiet
and withdraw yourself at the Mosque or in big gatherings or when someone takes toys from
you or if it is too loud. Your last story was about how you are developing your positive
attitude towards your learning and finding ways to contribute at preschool. This term our
centre Programme planning is about “Communication- Learning to express their needs, idea
and feelings”. This gave us the perfect opportunity to provide you with the activities that
could support you to develop confidence in yourself to gain a positive attitude towards
learning and to contribute in a society as a Muslim child. We recite surah Fatiha, Surah Iklas
and especially surah Qurash because our Muslim programme focuses on Hajj. We had open-
ended questions at Mat time to find out what these surahs are about and what it means. I
noticed you listen very carefully, sometimes you become brave to put your hands up but get
shy when I ask you what you want to say. I noticed you had a big smile on your face when I
praised you for being involved and brave enough to put your hand up to answer the
questions.
What is Happening:
During these last few weeks I provided the activities that could give you more confidence to
express your feelings and ideas and develop the positive attitude towards learning; making
decisions and friendships.
